Only enough vetoes to not anger Trump. McConnell gets unlimited because he is not running for re-election. Murkowski also gets unlimited because she has been primaried and won anyway as a write-in. The rest may only get one or two.
Interestingly, those are the base requirements of cabinet nominees in this administration. While the job directive is to be submissive, cruel, and incompetent.
Someone please tell me this is fake news…I really hope this is bullshit…can’t tell:
Donald Trump’s presidency already feels like a reality show in many ways, but his Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, is reportedly taking it a step further. According to The Daily Mail, Noem is developing a reality TV series where immigrants will compete for a chance to earn US citizenship.
Per a 35-page pitch viewed by The Daily Mail, Noem has been working with writer and producer Rob Worsoff (of Duck Dynasty fame) on a new program called The American. The competition series would feature 12 immigrants arriving in America via Ellis Island before traveling across the country to compete in various challenges. The grand prize winner would be sworn in as a US citizen on the steps of the Capitol.
ETA: The Wall Street Journal is reporting on it so seems probably true:
Amen. They used to have a TV show about a guy they called, The Dog Whisperer . What this guy could do with even the most bad assed dogs was nothing short of a miracle. I’m talking about dogs much worse than the unfortunate deceased. One thing of note that I remember is that, many times, the root of their poor behavior was the poor job their owners did in training them.
Maybe they should have shot the owner instead.
Pretty sure you want that to be The Dog Whisperer. A dog whipper would get results but they’d be sad and regrettable.
Ah, my God!
Thank you! I was able to edit it in time before my editing privileges timed out. Uh-oh, I edited it in my post, but your quote of my original gaff didn’t change! I see it mocking me. LOL
Yeah, no. Cesar Millan(Dog Whisperer) is soaking in controversy.
There are lawsuits stating cruelty and physical abusive training methods.
He has other lawsuits associated with his pitbull “Junior” attacking persons and actually killing other dogs.
His training methods you see on the show are heavily edited.
They just make it look easy or magical on Millans part.
Take the show you see, not with a grain of salt, but a handful of salt.
WOW! I’m so sorry to hear that! This is why I have major trust issues with humans in general.
Exactly. I just loved that show. Bought it hook, line and sinker.
But then the reports started leaking out.
I was so dumbfounded.
I know during his show he often said “show no love or give rewards UNTIL dog behavior is correct”
That bothered me. I’ve gotten more response with love, kindness and treats.
I just assumed the dogs on his show were way beyond what I’d encountered as a pet owner. He WAS the expert, I thought.
Nope. No formal training. No certificates. No degrees.
I never learned a damn thing about how to control a dog from that show, except “Be Cesar Milan.” He would just walk up and take hold of the leash and the dog would chill out.
Yeah. I volunteer at an animal rescue org, that goes into the scariest (if you believe the hype, though it has the highest per-capita murder rate in South Africa). I was there this morning. Rescue in this case is not physically removing the dog from its home, it is helping the owners of the dog with things they cannot afford, innoculations, sterilisation, medical care. We return them to their homes after treatment.
The dogs we deal with are owned by low income folk. These dogs are often not well socialised, not well fed, not used to strangers. Pitbulls and pitbull-cross are really common, but more commonly also the Africanis, which (probably) originated in North Africa. They resemble a jackal, but vast interbreeding means reversion to type, they probably look like the “original” dogs.
They tend to be small (jackal size, 50 to 60cm at the shoulder) and a brindle yellow coat. Long snout, folded ears.
We bring food, medicine, pick up dogs to take to the SPCA for what we can’t do, occasionally take them to an animal hospital.
Love, kindness, and treats. The combination works wonders.
I was always a big fan of Cesar Milan and while I don’t subscribe to all of his methods I - as a dog owner and someone who works in dog daycare and boarding - have had excellent results with some of his methods. I haven’t read all the controversy stuff, but many times “violent actions” toward a dog are warranted. If two dogs are scuffling, you can’t just suggest they break it up - you’re going to have to get physical with at least one of those dogs and it might look violent … but what else are you going to do?
I hadn’t heard about Junior killing other dogs though. That sucks.
Fortunately (for all of us) most people can’t edit out the bullshit parts and you see all of them. Good, bad and BS. Doesn’t mean you should trust more but that you will probably get a better clue about a person in real life after some time than you will a TV personality.
I am NOT defending Cesar here (I have no dog in this fight ) but IIRC he has a lot of experience with dogs going back many, many years and was, apparently, a guy who dogs just kinda got along with. That does not mean he knows some magic training juju though.
I’d take a cowboy who has been riding horses for 30 years over someone who read a book about horses and wrote a thesis about them as an expert on horses any day.
Again…to be really clear…I am NOT defending Cesar Milan nor trashing him. I’ve only seen a few episodes of him with dogs. Just saying, practical experience can count.
I’ve done this a number of times. But I don’t get violent. I dive into the fray, and yell like an angry banshee that just stubbed its toe. I basically scare the shit out of both animals.
They are so stunned, they both back off.
It’s just a natural instinct of mine to protect my dogs. So far it’s worked, and yes, so far I’ve been lucky.
I thought this too.
Then I was at a dog park with my dog and two other dogs got into it. One was a little dog and the other much bigger. The owner of the little dog ran up and she grabbed the bigger dog’s hind feet and lifted them off the ground and back-pedaled. The big dog was now only on his two front feet and was completely unable to do anything. He could not continue attacking the little dog and was absolutely unable to turn around and get at the woman dragging him backwards.
I was impressed. The woman let the dog down after pulling him back a few feet and the dog wanted nothing more than to get away once let down (which it did).
I’ve always heard that technique works but I haven’t had to put it into place yet.
Of course you have to have some control if a fight breaks out.
When I volunteered at the dog shelter we had dogs that were labelled “bad dog”. I got nipped a time or two but I found out most didn’t want to bite, its just all they knew. I never went in the kennels with seriously crazy dogs. But I talked to them. Always brought treats. They quit snarling eventually. They saw I wasn’t gonna crowd them or bring something in “vet stuff”, that might pinch or hurt. And I had food.
So I was sorta accepted.
There’s no way Millans methods could be implemented for these dogs. I could be confident and “the boss” outside the kennel. Not in.
The were unadoptable. Our shelter gave them a home as long as they lived.
Oh, Cesars dog “Junior” supposedly killed Queen Latifas dog.
The whole Cesar Milan controversy has been going on for years.
The idea of a reality show like the one Noem proposes is beyond disgusting. If the immigrants want to do it themselves, and put it on Patreon, that’s another thing, but that’s not what this is.
Well, if you go by this thread, she’s a disgusting person.
The fact I(or anyone) has to even think about her is disgusting.
Gah!!
