I don’t know him personally, but he seems to me to be very squeamish about things that he finds icky, which includes any flavor of “trans” anything, and he wouldn’t have wanted anything so tainted around him. Of course, any of his staff may have known and been both keeping it from him and saving it up for some useful occasion.

When an authoritarian leader demands loyalty above all other considerations, they naturally attract people with sketchy backgrounds. What better way to ensure loyalty in your underlings than knowing how they’re compromised? Even if there’s no direct repercussions, these people have nothing of value but their loyalty, so they cling to it tightly, until they’re thrown under the bus.

The Noem’s children are blameless and no right-thinking person would judge them for their parents’ activities. Their problems are that they care about the opinions of hateful judgmental people who cannot be described as right-thinking (e.g., typical Republicans). Those Republicans are perfectly on board with punishing children for the offenses of their parents. And of course, their parents problem is also that the Republicans with which they associate are among the most hateful and judgmental people in the country, so they will judge Kristi Noem on her affair and hate Mr. Noem for his proclivities. If the Noems had an ounce of introspection, they would realize that their problems are all caused by the right wing monsters they are working to keep in power.

Somehow we ended up in a timeline where the Washington Post is uncritically carrying water for a corrupt Republican administration and the Daily Mail is doing rigorous fact-checking of bombshell stories that expose the government’s hidden secrets.
Not to mention all those immigrants who were following the rules and going to their hearing who have been grabbed, the legal college students who made legally protected comments that the administration didn’t like who were grabbed, the random people deported foreign jails without due process, some of whom did nothing wrong (because without due process, they punish the wrong people some of the time.) I can keep this up all day. Yes, she can go fuck herself.
