Looks like I called it. (post #244)
Waitwaitwait, I think there’s a conspiracy here but it’s not the one they’re seeing.
The town with the kids getting killed just happens to be the same place where a woman who writes fiction about kids killing each other in gladiatorial combat lives? And then the young son of a man who worked on the movie about young people killing each other in gladiatorial combat kills people? WAKE UP SHEEPLE! PANEM WERE NEVER THE VILLAINS SUZANNE COLLINS WANTS YOU ALL TO LIVE IN DISTRICTS AND KILL FOR HER AMUSEMENT!
(This connection is very funny to me and I am going straight to hell for it)
Hey, blindboyard, I saw you post several times after my post about your favorite site, A Voice For Men, but you didn’t acknowledge it. Do you think the tooootally not misogynistic at all posts I found help the MRA case?
An interesting article that popped up in my Facebook feed. I apologize if it’s already been posted.
Jeopardy Guy can write insightfully, I’ll give him that.
Holy fucking shit, I know… no I don’t know, I desperately hope this is 100% fucking bullshit machismo posturing and all of these fucks are too chickenshit to do anything but I am seriously freaking the fuck out right now after reading that
Not to downplay your feelings or anything, but crazy people mouthing off on the internet is hardly something worth getting worked up over.
The problem with that notion is that we have unequivocal proof that a certain percentage of crazies mouthing off on the internet will go on killing sprees.
Valeri Fabrikant mouthing off on USENET being one of the earliest examples.
Meh, a certain percentage of Muslims like blowing shit up. That doesn’t justify Islamophobia.
So there is a bunch of frustrated moron males mouthing off on Internet forums. Question: when women express the ubiquitous “all menarescum” (sometimes a softer “jerks”), with pearls like “So no, we’re not actually advocating killing all men, but what we need is for men to understand why we might.” - is that a cause for concern as well?
It might be cause for a little concern. For me, though, the amount of concern is pretty small, based on a few things – no past history of violence/oppression of men, no evidence (so far) of actions taken that are violent/oppressive to men, and no indication that more than a tiny percentage of any group (even feminists) actually support this kind of stuff.
I don’t think ‘ubiquitous’ is the right word here.
You haven’t heard women express the “all men are scum” sentiment - ever?
Let me tell you, I have heard variations of “all men are scum” or “I hate men” or “all men are jerks” from women numerous times (with the emphasis on “heard” - as in vocally, in conversation). Not once have I heard any men friends/acquaintances of mine express the reverse sentiment. I would say among men such feelings are few and far between. Among women (at least judging by them expressing it - I don’t know if they really mean it or not) it is much more prevalent.
I’ve heard people say it before on TV; I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a woman in real life say it, except perhaps as a joke.
And yet I have not heard one man on TV or in real life say something like that, EVEN as a joke.
The Isla Vista monster hated himself. All of his other rants were justifications for his self-loathing.
He wanted people to pay attention to him, listen to him, and talk about him. And he succeeded. Good for him, I guess.
So what? Violence and oppression of women is real and much, much more common than violence and oppression of men. Both are bad things, but in the real world one is a much, much bigger problem.
And actually, I’ve heard men badmouth women quite frequently, as much or more than the reverse, both in real life and on TV.
Yeah. Far too much serious attention has been paid to this little prick.
Hey. Here’s a good one; What’s the difference between an egg and Elliot Rodger?
An egg gets laid before it cracks.
That doesn’t mean we should completely ignore Muslims making on-line threats.
It’s like threatening to kill the President - most people who do it are, as you say, just mouthing off and don’t mean it. The secret service still investigates all such public threats to sift out the serious from the mouthy. Likewise, it might not be a bad thing if there was some agency to investigate internet hotheads to sift out the the actual threats from the mouth.
