It’s clear that we punish violent crime against women more harshly than violent crime against men. I’m actually okay with the disparity. It’s probably hard wired into our moral sense to place a higher value on women’s lives than men’s.
That said, excusing the higher rates of violence against men in the society because they “chose” to be in that environment is just sophistic bullshit and victim blaming.

Your argument is meaningless because men in general don’t kill women. Male murderers do. The vast majority of men in general don’t kill anyone. Of those men who do kill, they kill mostly other men.
There’s nothing to dodge. You’re not using the relevant metric. The relevant metric is how many women male murderers kill vs how many men male murderers kill. Male murderers kill way more men than they do women.
Gender equality here would involve male murderers killing more women even out the disparity. Either that or generating as much societal concern over violence against men as has been generated over violence against women.
How about a “Bring Back Our Boys” twitter campaign for the young men slaughtered in the thousands by Boko Haraam. For that matter, how about a twitter campaign for the young men shot dead on the streets of Chicago every weekend.
