I’ll give you my take. I think the voting system is fucked up (inconsistent, unfair in various ways in various areas, etc.), but I have never thought that either side had engaged in conspiracy to defraud the electorate.
Had the Pubs won, I would have blamed the American citizenry for being too stupid to throw them out, as they were in 2004.
Republicans being WEAK? I think it was just the opposite. People were sick of watching the republicans railroad the entire legislative process just to score some points on issues. The “nuclear (nucular) option” was one of many, many things that became public that showed just what the republicans thought about the capability of Americans to make decisions. They all cry about Democrats being full of elitists who think they know what’s best for everyone and who condescend to the average American voter, but at the same time t hey insulted the intelligence of the average American voter when they resort to arm-twisting and really really dirty pool (like the Plame leak) at the same time they are calling someone else elitist.
I know I was, and I usually steer toward the conservative vote. But don’t listen to me, I usually hate both parties equally.
Not to belabor my own Triacus anaolgy, but the more I think about it, the better I like it.
Remember how the kids were controlling the ship through fear? Like when that one kid pounded his fist so that Sulu saw daggers circling around the viewscreen? And when Kirk tried to change the ship’s direction, Sulu was all like “No! Stay the course! Stay the course!”
I do. Until they again get complacent and corrupt. I give it at least 4 years, maybe even 12. But I don’t doubt that if the Dems stay in power long enough, they’ll get back into their bad habits.
What a pathetic rant. It sums up all that is wrong with American democracy. Had the Republicans won, you’d be screaming how Diebold had fixed the election. Or the designated target du jour. You do not respect the right of people to hold views with which you disagree.
Dude, it’s a Pit rant. Respect for other people’s right to hold differing views is not what drives the discourse around here, however valuable and necessary it may be in real life.
Aeschines, there was much beauty in that rant. I laughed, I cried. I was moved to the point of verklempt, I tells ya. So many phrases deserving of immortality. Debacular! Libertarious! Two years of national waterboarding!
This reviewer says run, don’t walk, to this rant!
