Fuck you, east coast "liberals." Fuck you, west coast "liberals."

Sheesh, I’m going back to the commercial banana thread it’s more fun and a lot less stupid.

Something that can pick 8 row of cotton at once and runs on fried chicken, of course. Since I’m white, I obviously was going to appreciate the joke, since that’s the assumed default position of a white boy down here.

2006 and we’ve seen how well that’s worked out. And anyone who thinks that the GOP won’t go after Obama just as hard and vicious as they wnet after the Clintons is deluding themselves. Look what they did to McCain in SC in 2000 with the flyers implying that McCain had a child out of wedlock (and horror of horrors, it wasn’t with white woman). You guys think the “Obama’s a terrorist secretly working for Al Qaeda” emails are bad now, just wait until the GOP selects a nominee. You can bet they’ll pull the gloves off (either openly or through 527s) and you’ll be longing for the days of “Obama = Osama.”

I can appreciate it.

I can appreciate how stupid it is, anyway.

You have my sympathy.

Right. So when I saw your statement about 16 straight years of Democrats in the White House, I couldn’t help thinking it might be a little premature.

I think that’s mostly true. The question then becomes ‘how much of it is going to stick?’ I think Obama out looking better than Clinton in that regard.

Except that Rove wasn’t exactly a brilliant political mind. Gore and Kerry both basically did themselves in when they went up against Rove. Rove also benefitted from the goodwill generated by the 9/11 attacks. The present GOP is a pretty toxic organization as far as the country’s concerned, right now and until the saner folks in the party are able to wrest control from the nutters, the best thing for the country would be for the GOP to lose power.

The 16 years of Dems in the White House is only highly likely, IMHO, if we have a Clinton/Obama ticket. If Obama get’s the White House now, it’s too soon to say who his logical successor will be (and how much of a chance he/she will have of ending up in the Oval Office). Remember, the Clintons know how to win elections, so the odds of Hillary being a two termer are pretty high, and Obama’s certainly got what it takes to win the White House.

Nah. Right now, the GOP’s attack dogs are going after Hillary, but Obama get’s the nom, and you can expect they’ll start on him with the “Barak Hussein Osama” routine and it’ll only get worse from there. As for things “sticking,” that won’t matter, they’ll just keep throwing the same dirt over and over again, even if everyone but the most party loyal know it to be bullshit.

Same name, different planets.

Just for snoring too loud, IIRC (though she had warned him and that sleep apnea device was doing no good).

I voted for Obama not for any white guilt (I don’t think i have any, and besides he’d only take care of white guilt for six months of the year) but because he impresses me with his ability to think on his feet and… [gasp]… articulate (did you know presidential candidates could do that?) and I think he’s the most intelligent and well informed candidate running in an election where anybody who’s elected has got more work ahead of them cleansing the castle of Death Eater residue than probably any president since… ever. His vote on the Iraq War was a factor in my decision but not the deciding one.

That said, come November if Hillary’s nominated I’ll hold my nose and vote for her. I don’t consider her pro-war or pro-murder, except perhaps for Vince Foster and, hell, she done already kilt him (and if she hadn’t I cain’t say as I wouldn’t have myself- that snoring got old).

I agree. You appear to be only the second person on this board who thinks that Rove is really overrated.

I don’t think it’s highly likely under any circumstance. You noted that Bush and Rove benefited a lot from September 11, and it’s impossible to know what else is going to happen and how it will affect people’s perception of the President.

It’s too soon to get into any speculation of this sort. We don’t know the issues, the potential opponents, or a million other major factors.

Her odds of being elected at all are probably 50-50 if she is nominated. Incumbents have an edge, but we can’t really guess at re-election possibilities before she has even done anything.

He has what it takes right now, for sure. Who knows how people might see him after a term or two as VP - particularly when Hillary’s VP would probably be below Bill in the White House pecking order.

I’m sure.

Do you think people just automatically believe dirt? They could have called Kerry a flip-flopper and a phony all they wanted - if he had responded more effectively, people would not have been as ready to believe it.

Obama says GOP will have dirt on Clinton

Oh wait, Obama is throwing dirt on the Clintons himself:
Obama Directly Attacks Bill’s Presidency, Blames It For Massive Dem Losses

Shameful, Shameful, Shameful!
Or at least it would be, if it were Hillary dissing Obama.

What will the proponents of an ‘elevated’ national political discourse do now?
I expect much sighing, and attacks of ‘the vapors’.

The Clintons have proven themselves willing to adapt to people’s perceptions of themselves. Bill’s not known as the “Comeback Kid” for nothing.

Right.

I’d be willing to bet that she’ll be a two termer, with the caveat that if there’s some kind of large scale disaster/terrorist attack and she flubs it, she’ll be out, otherwise, unless the GOP is able to find the 21st Century version of Lincoln to run in 2012, she’ll remain in power

See, this is why I think that he’ll do it, and be happy about it. If either Hillary or Obama get the White House, they’re going to have to do damned near everything right (or know how to save face if they screw something up), or they’ll have screwed it for the next minority trying to run. Imagine if Shrub were black or a woman (or both) and had fubared things just as badly. Do you think that anyone other than a white male would have a shot at being President for at least a generation? Bill, for all his faults, was a good President, the best the Dems have had since JFK. He knows what it takes to be President (shit, he’d probably be running if he weren’t Constitutionally prohibited). You can bet that he’d be schooling both Obama and Hillary on what it takes to be a good President, so that they didn’t blow it. This will crack open the doors in both parties for minorities to make it to the White House. That will trump the legacy of most Presidents. His name will be lumped in with those of the Founding Fathers and Lincoln. I can’t imagine too many Presidents wanting to turn that down. America is on the cusp, right now, with whites soon to be just a plurality in the country. The politcal party that puts the first minority candidates into the White House will be able to shape this country in ways we’ve never seen. The Clintons and Obama are too astute politicians to not realize this.

What’s that old saw about saying a big lie long enough and people will believe it? Or the one about being able to fool all of the people part of the time?

But what does that have to do with the demon Hillary Clinton? Surely it’s obvious by now that she’s pure evil? Obviously she must be, with her decades-long record of venomous treacheries. Not to mention that time she spent in prison. Or that was Martha Stewart, wasn’t it? But whatever.

Remember, liberals: a vote for Hillary is EVEN WORSE than a vote for a Republican. Because she’s SO MUCH further right-wing than they are, it’s not even funny. It’s like she and W are part of one big family; or “dynasty,” if you will. They have even shared the same bedroom. Ask anyone. Ask the internet.

For the sake of liberalism and the future of the Democratic party, DO NOT vote for Hillary Clinton! She is too divisive, and she’s EXACTLY THE SAME as a Republican, except where she’s WORSE than a Republican, which is why the Republicans hate her. You Democrats don’t want the Republicans to be unhappy, do you? They are such jolly folk when they are pleased with life.

Whatever you do, young liberal, do NOT soil your precious voting privilege by touching it to this woman, or it may rot and fall off. Do not fall for the siren song of this seductress, lest it lure us all to our DOOM! Whatever failings the previous Republican presidency may have had, they will surely pale into insigificance next to the calamitious repercussions of a Hillary Clinton presidency. You just know that she will use her executive privilege to personally greet the bodies of dead American soldiers, so that she can sodomize their hollowed-out skulls with a dildo crafted from Che Guevara’s thighbone. She owns two, you know-- because Guevara had two legs. This has been verified by independent sources.

Let us instead strive to renew the dignity and respect of the presidency, just as that beloved Democratic president-- er-- hm. Well, we could go back to-- well, no-- but ah, what about-- hm. No, there wasn’t much love there was there? So that takes us back to… erm. But wait, what about-- er… maybe… the, er… New Deal? But didn’t he also… hmm.

So. Let us look to a true model of presidential dignity and bipartisanship, Ronald Reagan. Here was a man who knew how to appear inspirational! And the Republicans loved him! He’s the ideal Democrat.

Including the stuff about how Hillary will invade Iran if President, and how those who voted for her are voting for Bush (with hints of mental imbalance thrown in), and that those who voted for her should have their kids on the front line (with their heads hopefully blown off first)?

Well, fuck you, TLDRIDKJKLOLFTW.

Fuck you for saying, “Fuck You” to 1.97 million people who didn’t vote for Clinton, or, more to the point, saying “Fuck You” to the 1.74 million people who voted for your candidate.

Mostly, just fuck you for being a drunk, blathering idiot, whining in self-pity, making all us liberals look bad.

Yeah, fuck it. Why not? I’m tired of rationality. On top of all of what he said, Hillary is also a shapeshifting space lizard from Sigma Draconis. If she gets elected, she’s going to pass mandatory baby-eating legislation.

But I bet Chuck Norris can stop her!

Bill Clinton is very adaptible, and he’s a natural politician with a gift for connecting with people. She isn’t. I’d say her image has remained fixed for about 15 years, in spite of the fact that she’s done mostly under-the-radar, yeoman work as a Senator (at least before she began openly running for President). She’s very smart, disciplined and works very hard, but I don’t see adaptible.

A lot of people already loathe her, and in four years as President, she’s going to upset more people - it’s impossible not tick people off in that job. Combine those and it won’t take anything like Lincoln to beat her.

An interesting point, but historical concerns are things you worry about mostly at the end of your term. Before they worry about history, they’ll have to deal with the political realities of the day, like trying to get bills through Congress without a filibuster-proof majority.

The other half, of course, is “You can’t fool all the people all the time.” I don’t mean to put too much faith in the discernment of the public at large, but they don’t fall for every single lie out there. Sometimes lies don’t take - they get contradicted by circumstances, don’t hang together with previous lies, aren’t what people want to believe, or sometimes people just tell the wrong lie. And sometimes the lies really do get shot down. There’s not much Hillary Clinton can say or do that will change people’s minds about her - they will believe or disbelieve lies told on the campaign trail as suits their views. I think Obama would actually be able to refute some charges. Kerry could have, too, if he’d known what he was doing.

Since she’s become a senator, she’s worked hard on that. I have a feeling that her tearing up was Bill’s idea.

You’re forgetting about the coup that Bill pulled off in '96. He was the first person to go up against a military vet and win (without being a military vet). Perot got too few votes in the election to have been considered a siphon (unlike in '92). The GOP would have to field a spectacular candidate to be able to beat her (or rig the shit out of the election).

Ah, but Bill’s already out of office, and the Clintons are damned clever when it comes to politics. Never underestimate them. Never. Remember, Bill lost a re-election bid as governor of Arkansas, and a few years later managed to get it back.

I’ll note that we’ve got folks in this thread pouting and stamping their feet that if Obama doesn’t get the nomination, they’ll stay home on election day, as if a McCain presidency would be something other than Bush 2.0 Lite[sup]TM[/sup]. There’s a group of people who’ll never vote for Obama, no matter how well he defends himself. Let’s not forget that despite his blunders of Biblical proportion something like 30% approve of his actions. :shudder:

Which T in TLDRIDKJKLOLFTW stands for troll?

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a groo.
