Give me a fucking break. You’re a pussy. The whole goddam country is in free fall, and you had a golden opportunity to have your more conservative viewpoints represented in the Administration and you quit before you even start, because you might disagree?
So now you get to go back to your cushy little Senate seat, you weasel-assed chicken shit, while those of us who were counting on you to step up to the plate and do the right thing for the COUNTRY as opposed to your own goddamn self, have to suffer all the longer while yet another replacement is sought and vetted.
On the bright side, though, the GOP is demonstrating with amazing thoroughness just how blindly partisan and obstructionist they are, which should free our President to appoint a far more progressive Democrat to that and any other appointments that still need filling.
I doubt it. I expect he’ll try to find another Republican, since he really does want a loyal opposition. Given the political atmosphere, though, a Republican that doesn’t think compromise is a word created by Satan may be damn near impossible.
Since this was clearly a move intended to embarass the president, there’s no point in looking for another Republican to fill the spot. They’ve shown that they cannot be trusted to put country above party.
I love it. Barack “I screwed up” Obama humiliated once again! But unlike Daschle and Richardson, at least Republican Gregg is not stepping down under a cloud of suspicion and scandal! Gregg very likely doesn’t want to be anywhere near Hussein’s disastrous Hogzilla ‘stimulus’ package.
Eyes on the prize, Shayna – this means no reactionary hardliner in charge of a Cabinet Department. I think it’s valuable for Obama to have policy advisors who disagree with him, but that’s what they should be – policy advisors. They should work out of the White House, not have their own giant management and regulatory portfolio. Hopefully, the president has learned over the past week how serious the GOP establishment is about reaching bipartisan solutions to our nation’s common problems. If he does, he won’t be picking another one.
It’s all he’s got, though. If this country completely collapses he can feel totally vindicated that he was right. Far easier than doing anything productive, isn’t it?
I thought I remembered him saying something to the effect of “If the stimulus package goes over $X, I’m withdrawing my nomination”. I may be misremembering; it might have been a different criteria. If so, then at least he gave a bit of warning.
On the other hand, maybe they found out he’s a kiddie diddler.
Anyway, it’s time for Obama to stop reaching across the aisle now, since the Republicans have proven themselves utterly unworthy of being thrown the slightest crumb. They might be getting play as tough guys with the dittoheaded people-haters, but they’re setting themselves up for a nice long sabbatical out in the cold, and good riddance.
