You made the choice to read the SDMB today, and you made the choice to click on the Café Society forum, on the thread in question, and on the link (unless someone else did it for you, in which case this thread would certainly indicate as much since you’re all about thrusting the blame somewhere else). That the moderators were busy moderating other threads, doing their day-jobs, attending to various aspects of their shocker here lives, or otherwise not in one fuckin’ thread in the entire fuckin’ MB has no fuckin’ bearing on their ability to moderate, nor does it absolve you of the fact that YOU clicked on the link. The SDMB didn’t nearly cost you your job; your choice to click on a fucking link did.

Umm no, actually I don’t. I just now noticed that this was there and while I’m not a mod, I get paid just as much as one for my time here. Mods are here donating their time to keep the happy little world of SDMB toodling along. And you want them to read everything the instant it is posted?
You are being unreasonable. You are bitching and moaning because your work’s policy doesn’t allow for chance mistakes. You knew the rules, you took the risk of clicking a link. Yea, links from here are pretty trustable, but when your ass is on the line you might want to think a bit. While this is a great collection of people, it is still essentially some yahoos online.
You made a poor risk assesment. Suck it up. You’re not dead. You haven’t even lost your job. You are simply curtailed from the internet at work for a few months. Dos omething productive. Go try to change the policy.
Bicthing and moaning at the mods here will get you nowhere.
So what the hell do you expect the mods to do, dumbass? Monitor all posts as they are submitted to filter out any nasty links before they make it onto the board? Wanna volunteer to do that, monkey dick? Cause our mods currently have plenty to do.

Phlip, consider yourself to be the equivalent of one of those people who gets attacked by a grizzly in the Yellowstone or Glacier backcountry, and blames the park rangers for having failed to provide a safe environment.
Like in the parks, there are dangers on the Internet. Like the park rangers, the mods can’t possibly be everywhere at once, see everything at once, and fix it all before anyone gets hurt.
The difference is that at least the park rangers are full-time park rangers. Unc and Coldfire and Gaudere and practically all the other moderators are full-time something else - working for a living - and patrol these boards in their spare time, for free (OK, for a coffee mug; big diff), because they happen to like this place. Don’t give 'em shit because they can’t police the boards as thoroughly as you’d like - it just plain can’t be done.
It certainly sucks that this happened to you, but turning the mods here, or the board itself, or even Zaphod, into a scapegoat, is just plain assholish. Stuff happens, and sometimes it’s really nobody’s fault. This time it happened to you. Deal with it.
