Fuckin SDMB almost cost me my job today..

Oh? How about:

And then Philp added the bit about slapping the shit out of the one who put the link up in the first place.

I disagree with you, obfusciatrist. Seems to me a lot of petrol was spilled around the room – and then Philp threw a match.

10-09-2001 11:25 AM (5 minutes) Here’s where he said, “I work mid shift numbnuts, so I am at home right now. I just couldnt sleep.” Now I don’t know what “mid-shift” is but it sounds like what I’d call “second shift,” or 4:00 PM to midnight. Philip appears to be in the eastern time zone, too. So we should add an hour to all these post times to get his local time.

“Now I don’t know what “mid-shift” is but it sounds like what I’d call “second shift,” or 4:00 PM to midnight”

Thats swing shift dipshit. Mids is 11pm-7am. I think my post times will back me up on that. Once again you show your smarts. Get a job where your not fetching shopping carts or handing out food samples and you might have known that.

Goat Fucker.

Just so you can tack the times together in your little brain I am in Mountain time.

Thanks for making yourself look like an idiot compiling all my post times like that. All you did was prove that I work mids. Your the greatest Uncle Beer.

Shit for Brains.

The whole Dial up/Static IP thing is leading you no where. I have not posted on this board from work (which has a static IP) since Sunday night when I saw that thread in Cafe. Hell, I may not have even posted that night. Like I said, I am in as a guest until I log in to post.

Your information is incorrect. I cannot even access the internet at work now. It has been completely blocked by NetOps. You need to take a closer look at your moderator info King Beer.

You know, I spend a lot of time at work on the web (which is fine, because I’m just here in case something goes wrong). We also have a policy against porn. You know what I do? I don’t click on any links here until other people have responded, saying things like “Gosh that was funny,” or, “Gee whilikers, thanks for that link!” Alternately, if they say, “That was some fucking messed-up shit,” or, “But how did they get to goat completely covered in Vaseline?” I abstain.

I still have my job.

Well, I tried to stay nice.

Now…I seem to recall Lynn saying that if a person had a certain percentage of posts that were just flaming the Board and Mods/Admins, they would be banned. Are we near the critical mass yet?

I was just thinking the same thing.

And how many times do you have to call a mod a goat fucker? Reminds me of when I was about 5 years old and learned my first swear word, and had to repeat it endlessly because I thought it was so cool.

Maybe someone should put this thread out of it’s misery…

Write this down on your “Phlip Tracking Sheet” UncleBeer. Im getting ready to go to work now. Ill be there in an hour and 10 minutes.

As far as me bashing the mods, I just want to point out that this thread took the turn for the worse when UncleBeer made his first post. I made a statement that everyone disagreed with. My very next post was me bitching about surf monitoring software. I didnt begin the verbal assault.

Dont try to push all of this off on me and try to get me banned because a fucking moderator was the first one to take a personal shot. Followed by the rest of you cheesedicks.

Thank you Ice Wolf. Now I’ve read it 101 times. I still fail to see what set UncleBeer off. I still fail to see where he (up to that point) blamed a moderator for anything. I fail to see anything other than your typical Pit rant.

Did you also see the post where Phlip retracted his slap commented when Zaphod repeated his apology?

SDMB did – apparently – almost cost Phlip his job. The thread in Cafe did get him in deep shit. I still fail to see how saying that diminishes Phlip’s responsibility for having clicked the link.

UncleBeer overreacted and Phlip escalated things further. I’m guessing UncleBeer’s little stunt in using restricted information for public arguments has backfired on him; but I’m sure he’ll admit it if that is the case.

It’s been said that many times, obfusciatrist? Sorry, I hadn’t counted. I apologise for the redundancy, then.

I do agree with you that this has been escalated way beyond where it should be – from low simmer to full-blown firestorm. Just goes to show what off-the-cuff, flip remarks do on a public message board that only mods and admins can erase.

I also agree that the thread should be closed before further damage is done. I’m not baying for Phlip to be banned – but while this continues, that may well happen.

Hence – my “bye, bye”.

I didn’t meant that as an insult Ice Wolf. In my last post I said that I had read the OP a hundred times. So, you caused me to read it again. That isn’t bad, but I still don’t see the issue what set UncleBeer off.

S’okay, obfusciatrist. Let’s hope this thing just dies, all right?

This is the problem. You don’t see that both of these statements are totaly false.

The SDMB did not take any active role in causing Phlip to get in trouble at his job. The thread did not take any active role in causing him to get in trouble. He chose to click on that link. The fact that he claims he clicked on it before the warning was posted is completely suspect.

UncleBeer may have overreacted to Phlip blaming the board for his woes, but his point still stands. The SDMB is not at fault, Phlip is, and he absolutely refuses to take responsibilty for his own actions.

Therein lies the crux of the issue.

I read the whole thing, and I still don’t know if Britney’s dead or not. Anybody got a link?
Sorry.

Ice Wolf grins, waggles finger at Slip Mahoney, and walks away chuckling.

FWIW, I would have said the same damn thing I said earlier.

Do your job and do your SDMB surfing at home, at the library, at the local internet cafe or wherever else you can access the internet. Don’t blame the SDMB or a poster for almost losing your job. It is clearly obvious that your employer wants you to stick to work topics while at work.

What did people do during lull times 10 years ago before the internet was in the workplace? Um, usually they would either ask for more work, some would write in a journal, write poetry or read a book.

I realize that the internet seems like a goody that is entitled to all but if your your employer is pretty strong about your surfing habits then re-think your SDMB/Mod complaints.

BTW, a porn site can pop up with the most innocent of normal surfing…so how does one complain about that? You can do a search for breast cancer and hit several porn sites…

What if I start a thread saying “I’m so addicted to this fucking SDMB. This fucking SDMB is going to cost me my job. Thanks SDMB!!” To me that would seem like a pretty true statement, and in fact I wouldn’t even mean any insult to this message board by it. Of course the SDMB wouldn’t be playing an active role in my losing my job, that’s understood, isn’t it? I know that no-one on this message board intends for me or anyone else to lose my job, just as I think Phlip knew that no-one on this message board intended for him to lose his. He accepted the apology of the person who posted the link in question, and apologised himself for having said that the person should be slapped. His comments in the his original post were a bit bitter but I think that’s understandable coming from someone who had just gotten into trouble at work. Of course none of us should be surfing the web at work, but Phlip didn’t get into trouble for just surfing the web. Anyway, in the years that I have been meeting people on the Internet, I have found many who are there during work hours. Since I do not employ any of them myself, it is none of my business what their companies’ policies are about Internet use and what they should or shouldn’t be doing if they have extra time on their hands.

A few days ago I clicked on a link on this message board that opened up a screenful of porn, in plain view of my colleagues. I was a bit horrified but I wasn’t annoyed at all since the person who posted the link had called it “A link to really weird hamster porn” or something like that. I had foolishly thought that this was some sort of joke! I had also been under the impression that posting links to porn sites was not permitted on this message board. Of course I know that every post is not moderated (and I’m glad that they are not) but I thought that perhaps it just wasn’t the done thing. Anyway, I can imagine that if the person had not so clearly stated that the link was to a porn site, I might have complained about it, and while I wouldn’t have used all the expletives, I could easily have said something like, “This thread got me in deep shit today”, or “Thanks, SDMB!” Not because I got into trouble at work - I didn’t - but because I wouldn’t want to have bestiality pictures popping up unexpectedly all over my screen, no matter where I was.

I don’t really have much to add except can someone please teach this guy the difference between you’re and your.
They aren’t the same thing.

It’s just starting to irritate a little, that’s all.

While I’m at it, can I rant off topic? Why do some posters feel the need to add their name or intials as some kind of mini sig?
I know who posted the message, I can read it on the left hand side of the freakin’ post.

I got out of the wrong side of bed today.

Andy (See, totally unnecessary)

Andy, aren’t you posting from work?

Too bad the OP has yet to get the point, methinks someone doth protest too much.

This was not posted while i was at work.
