Funniest single panel cartoon

Inspired by a thread about a New Yorker cartoon, I thought I’d start a thread asking Dopers to post a link to their favorite or funniest single panel cartoon.

There have been so many great ones I’ve loved through the years but the one that never gets old for me is this one.

There is no way in hell I could choose just one Kliban cartoon as “funniest”. Then to have go through all of George Booth and Gahan Wilson? No way I could pick just one as “funniest”.

This is the single-panel cartoon I’ve probably shared with the most friends lately. Could be all those WWF games I’m involved in. There have been many throughout the years for me, including more Far Sides than I care to count.

I’ve always liked this one!

Whatever it is, it’s gotta be a Far Side cartoon.

Or Charles Addams.

I haven’t seen that one. Thanks, that’s great!

My favorite is the newspaper that inadvertently attached a Far Side caption to a Dennis the Menace picture.

I spoke too soon.

I miss Markxxx.

How about this one? The blogger is mistaken about its origin. I had it on my dorm room wall in the early '80s and I’m pretty sure it was clipped from National Lampoon.

The Flying McCoys has had some of my favorites, including
this one, and this one.

I couldn’t find it on line, but one of my favorite Far Side cartoons showed a guy standing on the bottom of the ocean in scuba gear of the type that had an air hose that went up to the ship. He’s looking up as the ship supplying his air is sinking above him.

Far Side! I don’t have a favorite, but I haven’t read them in awhile. The “cat fud” one is the one that sticks in my mind the most, but hardly the funniest. Either that, or the cannibal ones, of which there have been several.

But in the linked cartoon above, is 03-2011 the date it was actually created, not posted? If so, their joke is a ripoff of a South Park from more than 10 years prior.

This is one of my favorites by Guy and Rodd.

Another, which might be them, I can’t find, but the image is of a lifeguard in one of those lifeguard chairs looking out over a beach. There are several large tentacles coming out of the water and dragging someone on the beach toward it, and someone else is running toward the lifeguard chair and pointing excitedly. The caption is (paraphrased) “Technically, I don’t have to help until he’s in the water.”

Far Side: The Thagomizer

Far Side: Crib Snake

I’m going by memory here but as I recall the story, newspapers refused to publish it. (Seriously, imagine that next to Family Circus) but it made its way into at least one of the books.

Anyway, it’s one of my favorites. Macabre but ironic.

You are not alone.

Here.

Yes, the blogger is mistaken about it’s origin. AFAIK, NatLamp never published any Kliban cartoons; he worked for Playboy magazine. ETA: Also, he died 12 August 1990.

I’d look it up and tell you what book that first appeared in, but my books are all packed up for my (hopefully) imminent move to a new house.
