Lauren Graham.
Looking at the 30 Rock thread (where we’re also talking about Arrested Development) reminds me of the funny sexiness / sexy funnyness of Portia di Rossi, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett. And I’m sure some would add Jessica Walter to that list.
Much more so in Galaxy Quest but definitely yes. Still comes in second to Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge, though. The scene where she thinks the young writer is the Duke is both hilarious and incredibly sexy.
Oooh. Good one. Although most of the good lines went to the male actors in that show.
Gotta disagree with you here. She was amazing.
Even when she was playing it for laughs.
I’ve always hated her stand-up, but Sarah Silverman was pretty good on Greg the Bunny.
And I will shamelessly admit crushes on Olivia Colman (That Mitchell and Webb Look regular and also PC Doris Thatcher in Hot Fuzz) and Paula Poundstone, although in Paula’s case, I think that the funny makes her sexy. She’s not a sexy performer in and of herself.
I “discovered” Ginger Rogers and Carole Lombard a couple of years ago. Both of them drop-dead gorgeous blonds, both of them incredibly gifted comediennes. I don’t think there’s been anyone to match them since, though I agree that most of the women cited in this thread are in fact funny and sexy (with about half a dozen exceptions. I mean, “Wanda Sykes” sexy? Only if you think butt-ugly is sexy.)
Still, as good as the rest of the nominees are, I don’t think any of them quite match Rogers or Lombard.
First one I thought of.
Also: Alyson Hannigan and Rosalind Russell.
Oh GOD yes!
I am right with you, and I’m a straight chick. Lombard in Nothing Sacred? Damn, she was hot. Ginger Rogers in The Major and the Minor.
No mention of Isla Fisher yet? I think she’s incredibly sexy.
Zooey Deschanel in Elf, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Yes Man. Ha ha ha, hubba hubba.
And Amy Adams in Enchanted.
I thought of a few more gents adept at comedy and hella sexy: Robert Redford (Barefoot in the Park, The Sting, and Legal Eagles), Paul Newman The Sting, and Rock Hudson (any of his Doris Day flicks). Yowsa!
Also Rik Mayall (as Flashheart in Blackadder II - rrrrowf!) and Lenny Henry.
Some more women: Jean Arthur, Faith Ford, Melanie Griffith, Linda Darnell (especially in Letter to Three Wives), Barbra Streisand (yes, she was sexy in Owl and the Pussycat and What’s Up, Doc?), and Miranda Richardson.
Perhaps surprising, Faye Wray. I remember her being funny as a very dumb blonde in The Affairs of Cellini.
Both Abby on NCIS and Garcia on Criminal Minds are funny, sexy, and smart too. Odd because they are not the “types” associated with such–Abby is a Goth and Garcia is zaftig.
Sarah Chalke, Elliot on Scrubs
Christa Miller, when she played Kate on the Drew Carey Show. I like her on Scrubs too, but she’s not as hot (I think it’s because she’s had work done)
Connie Britton, Nikki on Spin City
Jennifer Esposito
Beth Littleford
I’m a ladytype, and I’d still do any of the girls above.
As for guys:
Brendan Fraser does a good funny and sexy character in several movies
John Hannah is hot as hell, and hysterical
Simon Pegg is currently my hollywood crush, definitely funny and sexy
It’s hard to top Tina Fey, who combines funny, sexy and smart with self-deprecation and irony. Close behind are Allison Hannigan and Lauren Graham.
That said, this thread is giving me lots of ideas for shows and movies I need to see (like “Enchanted”). And other ideas…
I’ll be in my bunk.
Jane Curtin. She played lead funny on SNL, sidekick funny on Kate & Allie and Margaret Dumont funny on 3rd Rock. And she always struck me as that WASP-y type Connecticut blonde who was just waiting to hop into the sack.
Neil Patrick Harris. And Fran Drescher, if you can get past her voice.
Maybe I’m crazy and can’t judge, being a straight girl and all, but I would nominate Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl and What’s Up Doc? for this thread.
Yes, do, please, as soon as possible. You’ll kick yourself that you wasted over a year not being totally head-over-heels in love with Amy Adams! She’s nominated for an Oscar too, and though she won’t win, I’ll be scanning the red carpet looking for her and will perk up if she gets to present anything. You must also get Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day for more sexy comedy gold (you even see her taking a bubble bath and getting out of the bathtub), then get Junebug to remind yourself that she’s a hella actress too (for the prurient, she masturbates in that one).
Speaking of this year’s nominees, there are several fantastic pictures by Annie Liebowitz in this photo spread. Anyone who’s already in love with Amy will have an orgasm when they see her retro-inspired picture.
That photo spread reminded me that Penélope Cruz belongs in this thread. When she does comedy she’s endearing, beautiful and sexy as hell. Her Best Supporting Actress-nominated role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona should be the poster girl for this thread. Or perhaps her Best Actress-nominated role in Volver.
I missed the edit window looking through that photo spread again. It’s Annie Leibovitz (note spelling) and she didn’t take all of the pictures.
As long as I’m here, for the guys, I think George Clooney is incredibly sexy, and though he’s purposefully not in his most comedic role, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, he is in another funny, sexy movie, Out of Sight.
That could be another thread (and probably has been); being able to judge attractiveness without feeling attraction. I’ve always thought there was something essentially undefinable about it. Some women push my buttons and some don’t, but I’ll be damned if I could tell you why. I’ve never understood people who can (or think they can) make any judgments beyond that.
