A gas station and house near where I used to live in Ontario used to be called “Dogsnest” - although it was absorbed into the City Of Townsend some years back. But in the '60s and '70s there was a place name sign at both “city limits”.

Well, we’ve already mentioned Intercourse, PA, but I don’t think the nearby Blue Ball was listed.

My personal favorites – they’re not even naughty – are towns we saw many years ago in England: Thornton Le Beans and Sheepy Magna.

Los Banos, CA (technically “the baths” but colloquially “the bathrooms”).

Manteca, CA (“lard”).

Delhi, CA (pron. DELL-high). This “town” is basically just a widespot in the road in the middle of California. I have always found it curious that one of the largest and most densely populated cities in the world was named after a 1-horse town in the San Joaquin Valley. :wink:

I’ve been through Conception Junction, Missouri a few times. I always thought that was an interesting name for a town.

We have both Felch and Felch Mountain in Michigan.

There are a couple of funny nakes up here. Whenever I cross the Nooksack River I start singing (B-52s) ‘Nooksack! It’s the Nooksack! Nooksack, bay-yay-bee-ee! Nooksack, baby!

And then there’s Chuckanut Rd. Makes me laugh so hard, I think I’ll chuck a nut!

My favorite funny name is Moose Jaw. And speaking of beaver- and big bone-, I’ve always wondered about the patented move known as French Lick.

Southeast of Orlando we have Yeehaw Junction (about as big as it sounds.)

I grew up a few miles from Knockemstiff, Ohio.

Then there’s my favorite: Dry Prong, Louisiana.

I forgot to mention Fort Gay, West Virginia.

I used to live near Upper Slaughter and Lower Slaughter in England. Signs as you get near the area point to “The Slaughters”

I also used to go through Piddletrenthyde quite often…

Conception Junction, what’s your function…?

In Toronto, the major avenue leading north from Queen’s Park is “Avenue Road”. Tends to confuse a few visitors.

Well, just west of Plainview (NY, not to be confused with TX) is Hicksville, which I never thought of as strange until a friend from Rhode Island started laughing hysterically when I mentioned the name :slight_smile:

Then there’s Street Road in a suburb of Philadelphia. I’ve always gotten a kick out of that one.
