Let’s get something straight. Family Guy and Pinky and The Brain are both great shows. Stewie is not a ripoff of Brain, unless Brain was foul-mouthed, sexed up, and possibly homosexual. And if Stewie is a ripoff of Brain, so what? They were both good characters. So there.
Wow, I like Family Guy and Pinky & the Brain and I never made the connection. I always thought the whole “take over the world” shtick was pretty common. Besides their common goal, Stewie and Brain aren’t that similiar. Brain is more reserved and low-key, while Stewie is fanatical and homicidal.
Weren’t there rumors a bit ago that instead of bringing Futurama back to television, they would probably produce a movie (whether direct to video or for release in theaters, I don’t remember)?
Groening is reportedly in negotiations with Fox about the whole deal and won’t give out much info on his progress. Seeing as how the various story elements for the show were plotted out pretty far in advance (As indicated by Nibbler and Fry’s shadows in the pilot episode.), I’d say that Groening would much prefer for the series to return, rather than to try and compress the unfilmed episodes into a single movie.
Brain was voiced by Maurice LaMarche doing Orson Welles. Maurice is my hero. He also does about 10,000 voices on Futurama. And Stewie is Seth McFarlane doing Rex Harrison on speed.
Is it possible to have a Futurama thread without some blowhard bitching about Family Guy and vice versa? Isn’t it possible to live in a world where both shows just get along?
Yes, it is. I get along with both shows, so they can get along with each other. I just get a little offended when someone knocks around Family Guy.
If Futurama comes back into production, what day and time slot should it take? I would prefer Sunday again, right after The Simpsons. Bernie Mac has left that spot (Fox is tying to kill that show) and it is currently being taken up by Simpson repeats. The Simpsons is a good lead-in, and it’s a better slot for the content. Plus, it won’t be bumped by football games.
You know, considering that the reruns of Family Guy and Futurama are clobbering both Leno and Letterman in the ratings, if the folks at Fox were clever, they could finally get that late night programming that they’ve always wanted. Since the shows are expensive and take a long time to produce, Fox would be stuck with one night a week, but they could make the most of it. (Not to mention that in the later time slot, both shows could be “edgier.”)
Since there’s no Adult Swim on CN on Fridays, slap new episodes of Family Guy and Futurama in that timeslot on Fridays on Fox, follow it up with reruns of Firefly, The Tick (preferably rotating between the live action episodes and the animated series) and call it, “Fox’s Far Out Friday.” This enables Fox to grab a toehold in the late night segment, and the new episodes of the shows won’t be competing with the reruns on CN. Once things got rolling, Fox could fill the slots on the other week nights with repeats of cancelled Fox shows that have a cult following, or perhaps finally come up with some kind of original programming that works in that slot.
