Beautifully put. Thank you.
I read an interview with David X. Cohen where he said Seymour will appear in the DVD-movies they’re currently making.

Seven-leaf clover!
When you folks start feeling too down, just remember,
Leela: “So long, jerkwads!”
Professor: “So long!”
I’ve got all the DVD’s and occasionally rewatch them, but Jurassic Bark is the one episode that I just can’t watch again. Screw with the “people” characters all you want, but that poor dog …
In a way, that episode snuck up on me. Since it was one of the many episodes I missed due to Fox’s weird unschedule for the program I saw it for the first (and so far only) time on DVD.
I can watch the episode, but I always stop it before it gets to the Seymour montage at the end. I cried when I saw Luck of the Fryrish the first time, but I’m okay with it now.
I can’t watch it again, either. We have all the DVDs and I just will not deal with that one. Much like, yes, I have SEEN Dancer in the Dark. Yes, it was good. You will never get me to watch it again.
He waited for you, Fry… he waited forever… if only you’d known and come back for him…
Dammit, you guys. I’m sitting here at work, with tears in my eyes just remembering this episode. I saw this episode for the first time about 3 months ago on DVD. I’m not sure how it escaped me during its initial run.
I’m like cochrane, I’m not a crier, but that tears me up. I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it again.
As soon as I saw the title of this thread I knew it would be Jurassic Bark. The music and Seymour’s pathetic little face. So sad.
When people tell me they never want to watch Jurassic Bark a second time, I assume it is because they forget that this is the episode that features Leela and Amy wrestling in skimpy leotards!!!
Yep, ditto here. A fully grown man like myself shouldn’t be crying at work damn it. Thank goodness it’s lunch time and not too many people are around.
Extra lovin’ for the pooches tonight.
The writers of Futurama had a knack for picking the perfect songs for emotional moments in the show. When I Will Wait For You (or whatever the title of that song is) starts playing I even I start to tear up… and I have never even had a pet let alone a dog.
But at the same time I can’t bring myself to not watch the episode again because it has so many great lines.
Rumor for the upcoming new Futurama material (Spoiler Warning):
Rumor has it that Fry finds out about Seymour’s fate and has the Professor clone him this time.
Jurassic Bark and Luck of the Fryrish are classics but I’ll toss another vote in as well for the montage at the end of the Leela & her parents episode.
I managed to see all three episodes on TV with my fiancée within the span of a few days of one another. After the third (Jurassic Bark), I told her “So now you’ve seen the three most emotionally draining Futuramas…”
Boy, I forgot all about The Sting. Just wait until I pull that one on her.
Come to think of it, the ending to Time Keeps on Slipping… always makes me feel bad for Fry afterwards as well. Damn cartoon makes me care too much about its imaginary people!
According to Wikipedia the original music for the montage was supposed to have been the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Also Sprach Zarathustra) but I Will Wait For You was substituted because writer Eric Kaplan’s grandparents sang and played that song on the piano when he was a grandchild.
I seriously doubt Jurassic Bark would have had the same emotional impact if 2001 had been used. They had a knack, indeed.
art oftens imitates life…
Hachiko: The True Story of a Loyal Dog
the only book my daughter had never requested be read to her a second time, as well as the single bok she willingly removed from her bookshelf.
The ending of “Leela’s Homeworld” gets me too. That’s where they show a montage of clips of her parents protecting/watching her silently during her life as an orphan. Another great song over that: “Baby Love Child” by Pizzicato Five.
you aren’t alone
And there’s another incident (in Montana) that’s very similar to this:
I can’t even get halfway though this thread without wanting to cry .
