OK, I admit it, I had a great big old tear in my eye at the end, anyone else?
That ending was really a downer, wasn’t it?
I didn’t see it. Was it sadder than the episode where Fry finds out his brother named his son after him and gave him his lucky clover? Because, man, that one is sad.
I thought it was.
I admit that I cried at the end of the episode. It’s amazing to me the reaction that I can get from cartoons. Snoopy, Come Home has the same effect on me.
I held my puppy close after I watched it. Then I tried to get him to sing Walking on Sunshine.
Damnit, I havent gotten this sappy over matt groening since that episode about maggie and homer’s job at the plant where he has “Do It For Her” on his wall.
Dog stuff makes me sad, because I really love my little dog. I’m not sure if I shed a tear, but I know I came close.
Spoilers aplenty
Heck, I wept at the unexpected news that they were airing a new episode.
Leela and Amy wrestling produced other strong emotions. Leela's moment of "I'm goin' in !" shall live forever in my memory.
But, I could’ve done without the last song. So, Fry decided not to clone the dog. Then, they show us the canine patiently waiting for Fry to come back, just like he promised he would. Why? Why? It was like having Bambi’s mom shot during the ending credits.
I was mainly pissed off that I missed half of it because the football game went into overtime.
“I promised myself… I wouldn’t cry…”
Not quite as sad as the end of My Dog Skip but pretty darn sad. I’m gonna give my parent’s aging dog some extra TLC when I get home for Thanksgiving…
First new Futurama I’ve seen in a loooong time.
I think it’s right and proper to have been choked up (slightly) at the end.
Some funny stuff there, for sure.
“Smart. Lava. Hot!”
Heh heh.
hmm, My Dog Skip
“But where Skip was really burried was in my heart. Which is why I started mutating into some kind of manimal and then died of cardiac failure.”
There was football on in Nashville, so they pre-empted it.
As usual.
Yes, Bosda, but luckily I had a friend on business in WA so she gave me a play-by-play over instant messenger…and I still got choked up!
Biggest. Downer. Ever.
I was a very sad ending but perhaps now that MG knows that show is in its final season he didn’t want to “jump the shark” :smack: and add a new character.
Anyone have any scoop on how he plans to end the series? Sending Fry home would be a nice was to close it out. He gets to spend time with his dog again too.
Side note: There is a thread in The Pit about using the JTS term so I added the Smilie.

I don’t think they’re getting to do a “final episode” for Futurama – weren’t all these eps. in the can already when the hammer came down?
-
Its been established that Fry is much happier in the future than in his original time period – I don’t think there’s any reason to send him home.
Although well-crafted, I didn’t think this episode had much emotional punch; for me, it just seemed like a retread of the episode where Fry learned about his brother’s devotion, and also it wasn’t as good as that one.

It was a sad episode…poor dog!
The episodes currently airing are the 16 left overs from last season, which they never showed. While the show has not been canceled officially, unofficially it might have well as been. Because this season is just repeats from last year, the Futurama staff has had to split up and move on to different projects.
Fox’s official stance is that it is waiting to decide whether or not to renew the show, but Futurama’s future is very, very grim.
