Sticky, that sucks.

shinycat, remember, all great artists are persecuted at some point.

One New Year’s Day there was snow on the beach. After the plunge, ran up beach & made snow angels…still in just a bathing suit.
Brings new meaning to the term “snowballs”

flytrap some birdbrain almost flew into me yesterday (& I mean that literally); ended up going low right between my wheels. Damn lucky it didn’t get whacked.

He probably believed himself to be making a run on the Deathstar.

Up, caffeinated, off to irk.

Good morning. I think I slept thru the night, altho I did wake up way too early again. But at least I feel more rested.

I really need to clean house today. As I was brushing my teeth this morning, I noticed how grungy the bathroom looks. Amazing what one sees when one puts one’s glasses on, eh? So I guess part of the day will be spent in Suzy Homemaker mode. rah.

That’s all I can manage at the moment - Happy Thursday. Send caffeine…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 95 and a heat index of 105. Plus accordin’ to TWC “widespread tstorms developin’ over the next few hours.” I have no idea what that means. At least it’s not as hawt as what mmmmmms is experiencin’. YIKES!

FlyTrap the kinda sorta short version is, eleven years ago the Episcopal Church (ECUSA) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) entered into what is called "The Call To Common Mission(CCM). This means that Priests (ECUSA) and Pastors (ELCA) can officiate at services in both churches, both churches are in full Communion and that one can be ECUSA, attend an ELCA church and if desired, remain Episcopalian and vice versa. The local ELCA, Lutheran Church of Our Savior (LCOS) has been in decline membership wise over the past ten years. They lost their church buildin’ due to this and have been rentin’ space behind a local Methodist church to meet. They also do not have a full time Pastor but rather a supply Pastor who travels about 180 miles roundtrip each Sunday. Poor guy retired and then was persuaded to do this. He’d really, really like to retire for real. Over the past few years, my church (St. Patrick’s aka St. Pat’s) and LCOS have developed a close friendship. We’ve had several joint services together always at St. Pat’s cause we’re bigger and have used both the ECUSA and ELCA liturgy (not at the same time, mind you, cause who would want to sit through that) at said services. The Southeastern Lutheran Synod has been somewhat supportive of LCOS financially over the past few years to keep a presence around here but feels like it’s time for them to decide how and if they’re going to keep going on. Thus it has come down to, either they disband as a church or join in a CCM with a local ECUSA. Since we’ve developed a bond over the years, we have been working towards this for several months. Beginning in September, LCOS will move over to St. Pat’s, have a nine a.m. ELCA service on Sundays and pay St. Pat’s rent for the remainder of the year. In the meantime both congregations will work toward how best to consolidate LCOS into St. Pat’s so that we have a shared budget, resources, ministry etc while assisting the members of ELCA to, in their words, “maintain their Lutheran identity.” It has been and will be an interestin’ journey. The ELCA is very congregational as in the membership as a whole votes on whatever business matters there are etc with the advice and guidance of a Church Council. The ECUSA, on the other hand, elects members to a Vestry (governing council if you will) each year at each Parish’s (ECUSA for church) annual meeting and the Vestry conducts the business etc of the church and advises the Parish throughout the year of what is goin’ on. Also, Parish members are always welcome to bring any ideas, issues and so forth to the Vestry for consideration. The idea in it’s final stages will be to incorporate LCOS into St. Pat’s, have a common budget etc with giving to both the Lutheran Synod and Episcopal Diocese of Georgia as required and have an early service each Sunday that is ELCA while the main service will continue to be a later Sunday morning Episcopal service.

And believe it or not that is the short version. There are a lot and I do mean A LOT of details I left out. Matter of fact I, as a member of the Vestry at St. Pat’s and as a member of St. Pat’s Committee on CCM have the joy of a meeting probably Saturday mornin’ to hash out terms of the proposed resolution to begin to make all this happen. Five more months on the Vestry I keep tellin’ myself. Five more months. At St. Pat’s we have a Vestry composed of nine people (as opposed to say nine elephants). Each year at the annual Parish meetin’ three persons are elected to serve a three year term. I’m comin’ up to the end of a three year term and must step down for at least a year before I can be considered for re-election. However, after servin’ three terms in twelve years I have a feelin’ it’ll be two or three years before I agree to that. Or not. I’m kinda wishy-washy.

Howzzat for TLDR y’all!

Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence post haste.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

BLURF!

Yesterday, I couldn’t sleep as much as I wanted. Today, I required explosives to get my ass out of bed.

Swampy, be careful of the Lutherans. They’ll bring beer to a whiskey fight.

Wait! There are Episcopalian elephants??? Whodathunkit.

Happy Thursday All,

SWAMPY That all seems complex and a little crazy. Tis nice to see your Church acting all Christian like and taking your Brothers and Sisters in. Seems like people in South Jawja have been actually reading the book. Good for you and you fellow Whiskeypalians.

On the other hand, yesterday here in South Texas we had massive lines at Chick Hates Gays because it was support Bigots Day. Apparently here we have forgotten what the afore mentioned Book said, this is why I left the Church.

Happy note, really happy note, yesterday I found on FB the first Woman I ever truly loved. Not that I expect anything but it is great to see her again.

What am I doing up this early? Caffeine required

That is all

JIM

Well, they never forget catechisms, although they do drink beer at a prodigious rate.

There certainly have been quite a few bad news thread around here lately, haven’t there? :frowning:
Well, this morning is class where I’ll hopefully get my incomplete and then it’s fork time. Or, I won’t get my incomplete and it’s study time. Either way, a busy day.

Hope everyone has a good one!

I have unloaded the kiln and I’m less than thrilled with the results. One dish got all lumpy when fired - I think it might have been a mix of 2 different clays that wasn’t blended well enough. One piece made of stained clay didn’t look red - it looked grey - bummer. The big flower pot had some glaze chip off and there’s a crack on the inside. It doesn’t go all the way thru, so I’ll just keep it and use it myself. And 3 of the pieces that are going into the windchime got stuck to the shelf - I’ll need to sand the kiln-wash residue off them before I can assemble the chime.

Overall, I appear to have some glaze problems. I’m thinking maybe I’m not applying it thickly enough. Hereare pics of the ones I hate the least - the first 7 on the page.

“The monster’s head comes off.”

Cool.

It is hot. Very hot. We might even match the record high temperature ever officially recorded in OKC. Not ‘beat the record for the day’ but the actual highest temperature ever. Urgh.

On the plus side after being at work for an hour I realised it was Thursday. I was convinced until that point it was Wednesday as I was talking to a co-worker about a meeting in 2 days and she looked puzzled.

Ha! I’m definitely not great. I figure I’m somewhere above Stephanie Meyer and below JK Rowling. So, y’know, fair to middling on a good day. My main problem is not finishing stuff - I get a lot of excitement in the beginning and then it tapers off and I don’t finish. (This one is getting finished, dammit! By Monday!)

Mooomm, cute stuff! I like the star bowls a lot.

Olympic sweating.

My vote would be for synchronized equestrian diving (with rider); 3m and 10 m. Swimsuits and goofy hats are a natural fit. Extra points would be penalized if the rider dismounts prematurely.

The twisted individuals I work with came up with cross country discus, greco-roman golf, and full contact cycling judo.

Thanks for your concern, everyone, and for lettin’ me spill here. I just got word minutes ago that the family has asked me to be a pallbearer and I am utterly humbled and honored to be a part.

Life’s funny sometimes, not in a ha ha sense but just the surprise of it all, what it throws at you. This has been one of the most unexpected series of events I can remember and has elicited some of the strongest emotions I’ve felt in awhile. I know things will return to normal soon enough, but it’ll be a new normal, won’t it? You process it, deal with it and go on but you’ve changed a little from the experiece and you’re a little more seasoned, accepting and contemplative.

All my in-laws just came in a day back and the house is full of laughter, cheer, plans and pleas from the 4 year old to stay up just a little longer. It’s a welcome distraction and this afternoon I’ll introduce my father-in-law to one of my best friend’s, my next door neighbor. We’re going to go out to a friend’s ranch along the Brazos sometime next week. There’s a sandstone crossing in the river that was used by Sam Houston as he drew Santa Anna towards San Jacinto and defeat. The crossing was also used by George Armstrong Custer I think during or around the Civil War as he camped nearby. And the oldest plantation in Texas, Bernardo (sp?) was just discovered on a hill overlooking the old path of the river and that crossing. My neighbor located the exact places all these occurred working with his metal detector for a couple of years. Previously the placed were known in a general sense but he actually found the buttons, bullets, pieces of Army gear and buried foundations that pinpointed the exact grounds. They’ve been shared with a university and formal archaeological digs are now ongoing.

So there’s distractions, things to do, people to play and celebrate life with. And that’s always a very good thing.

Had a good inventory, now I’m home having a beerverage. “The clock says half past 12, but it’s 5 O’clock somewhere”

Yep, I have a few of MMMmoooooom!!!'s pieces, including the FairychatMonster(which Gordie fears.:dubious:)

lieu, yay for distractions.

swampspruce(Goose?), I like that idea. “They don’t so much fly, as plummet”

(((((Lieu))))

Doggio - enjoy the beerverage, it’s past 5pm here so you’re safe!

I’ve had a relatively good day, for an unemployed person. I was up before 8am, only because a certain small white feline wanted her breakfast so the cats got fed and I got showered and stuff. I was in the supermarket just after 9am, home again by 10am and then an hour later off to meet a friend for lunch in the pub.

Fun time was had, I came home and have pottered around a bit since then, and now I’m contemplating getting the Wii out and doing some exercise. Or maybe just a nice soak in the bath. And then chilli for dinner and perhaps a cheeky little cocktail later. I do like this unemployment lark!

Fortunately, I’m really just “between jobs” as I have another job starting on Monday so I’m having a little break before that. The cats are happy about it, they get someone in the house for treats and fuss during the day instead of having to sleep for hours until I get back from work.

It’s a hard life…
