Long ago you lambasted me, incorrectly I might add, for what you took to be some simple-minded misunderstanding of Evolutionary theory on my part.
Yet you’ve now initiated this thread, a thread which you placed in Great Debates of all places, a move which shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how evolutionary theorization works.
You can’t freaking debate about that kind of thing on any factual basis.

Also, you managed to turn a thread that should have been in IMHO and which called for pure flights of speculation into a debate thread with you’re “uh-” and “um-” prefixed snark. Another “Gah!”

Threads like that pop in GD all the time. Yeh, they can be kind of silly, but I didn’t think this one was particularly bad. A link to your original gripe might help… otherwise, this is pretty weak, IMHO.
I should think it’s marked as pretty weak by it’s involving only a “gah!” and not a full on pitting.
I failed to find the original thread I mentioned, for some reason, and now my search window’s closed. It had something to do with evolution and sound perception. Octaves. Octaves, yes, that was the key.
So, the basis of your pitting is pretty much that lissener started the thread in GD rather than IMHO. Ok…let’s get a mod to move that thread and close this one. Problem solved.
I think this might be the thread that Frylock is looking for, although i couldn’t be bothered to search through it looking for lissener’s alleged misdemeanors.
I expect so much more from a lissener pitting. It’s not as though he doesn’t deserve it—anyone who begins a sentence with “Um,” should have his uvula ripped out with a pair of locking pliers—but my God, man, apply a little finesse. Let him do most of the work, leaving you to focus on technique.
Okay okay, guys. It’s not a true pitting, I know. I just couldn’t figure out where else to put the post. I was frustrated and annoyed by something Lissener did, but did not want to be wildly and egregiously insulting–just peeved. I wanted to express that peevedness because this is just one of those days. I didn’t want to hijack the other thread. And I don’t know where negative personal comments are appropriate on the boards other than the Pit. So I posted here.
(Actually, I was kind of annoyed by that thread too! But for some reason, at that time I knew it wasn’t worth posting about. I forgot myself this time.)
Was it that ‘nuh-uh, evolution doesn’t HAVE a purpose!’-thing? If so, that’s certainly deserving of a pitting in and of itself, though not one necessarily limited to lissener, seeing as how this is an all too well echoed chorus round these here parts; not that I disapprove of its content, mind, but strongly of its being injected into any given discussion that even remotely touches on the subject of evolution.
What’s the hurt in just trying to clear up whether any given person actually even suffers from this misapprehension? Asking a simple question would clear that up. And besides, really, it’s not that deep a matter. I understand how, especially around places like this one, it’s important to know one’s evolutionary theory, and display this knowledge every once in a while to mark one’s intellectual territory like a dog marks his, but really, this shit is getting old.
As for the ‘um’, I automatically imagine the person using it doing that ‘talk to the hand’-gesture and then moving their head back and forth or in a little circle; it lightens my mood, and the weight of their words.
Any thread on evolution tends to attract anyone who’s ever taken a high school class on the subject, and they all feel some sort of duty to regurgitate whatever factoids have stuck in their brain for all those years regardless of whether or not it has anything to do with the topic.
Naw, that’s pretty much the only good part about this rant. I mean, posts like that are so condescending, and hijack the thread. If somebody had that attitude in real life, they would be eventually called out as a jerk.
In fact, I think the first time I actually practiced DFTT was in that thread. I consider it trolling to post the same thing over and over after others have explained that they get it. What other goal can you have after that other than wanting to make people mad.
Oh, and OP: facts are debated all the time. Even something you perceive as fact can be wrong.
if it makes you feel better I just had a run in with Lissner in another thread that basically put him on my douchenozzle list with a few other choice posters on the board. hes not as bad as some but dude is indeed dense as all hell.
