Since I can’t find the darn trailer, how did Treebeard look? I’ve really been worried they’d essentially have a guy wearing a tree trunk with his face sticking out.

The link I gave to the full 4 minute trailer has been dodgy…I tried it several times myself last night before I got it to work. I did get the entire file downloaded to my pc, though…so if anyone’s interested in downloading it from me (the file’s about 20 meg, so it can’t be emailed), let me know. I’m home in the evenings from about 6-11pm EST, and my ICQ number is 196415 (ICQ has a file transfer option). carnivorousplant, we see only a glimpse of what I am 99% sure is Treebeard; it’s a quick close-up of Pippin, who is clinging to what he believes is a tree, unaware that the tree sports two large clear brown eyes! We do not see all of Treebeard.
I found the trailer, and dang it, it sure looks like a guy’s face (well, his eyes with brown makeup around them) sticking out of a tree.
Rats.
It doesn’t look like a real guys face… unless some guy has eyes about 18 inches apart…
Well, maybe a foot.
Still, Treebeard looks like an extra from the Wizard of Oz or an alien from the 1969 Star Trek. I have no better suggestion except to make him look more human and less tree, but Tolkein describes the ents as being trees.

That was Sam and Frodo crossing the Dead Marshes! That was Aragorn walking up to the Palantir! And, holy shit, I saw about 1 full minute of footage from the Helm’s Deep Battle!! At night, in the rain. Thousands of Uruk-Hai Orcs storming the walls! Legolas is kicking ass with two long knives on horseback! OMG!!
The cinematography looks fantastic! The camera work is ingenious as always! The CGI looks great! The cast looks great! I can’t wait!

We wont truely know about Ents until we see them walk, or whatever it is they do to move around. The old ones grow their roots deep.
I can’t wait to see the Ents. I’m especially eager to see how the effects guys handle their attack on Isengard. As I recall, Merry and Pippin described the sight of their powerful hands crushing solid rock as “like watching tree roots grow through stone in an instant.” That’s gotta be hard to do in visual effects. But man, it’s gonna be cool…
Much easier than their general appearence. I sure hope they look better than a face-on-a-tree.
