Gah!! The Two Towers trailer!!

I was at the computer today with the TV muted, and I looked up just long enough to see the last tenth of a second of an ad for TTT! The footage looked new, too, from what I can remember of the trailer.

I must weigh in on the side of Aragorn versus Legolas, but admit to falling well within the silly generalization posted above.
This may be discussed elsewhere, and if so, I humbly apologise, but is anyone else concerned about the greatly expanded role of Arwen? I guess I let it go in FOTR, but after seeing TTT trailer I have more and more misgivings. I am no purist, but the Arwen/Aragorn storyline is a footnote in the book. Where is PJ going with this?

…I don’t know maybe PJ… is… trying to tell a good story!
Yes it is a foonote in the books but isnt it alot more interesting than…the entire Tom Bombadil section of FOTR?
I’m being Snarky.

This is an advantage I have over those who have actually read the books. I don’t know that Arwen is only supposed to be a footnote. I’m just cruising my merry way through Middle-Earth.

OK, where is Faramir in the trailer? I’ve downloaded the complete thing, and still haven’t picked him out!

BTW, they list an actor as playing Ted Sandyman on the official website, so some kind of action has to take place back in the Shire eventually!

It’s the weekend! NO PRISONERS!

Umm… yeah, 'cuz Tolkien’s story sucks …

Whee! Saw it. Yes, Theoden’s speech rocks. So does the exchange of glances between Eowyn and Wormtongue. And Helm’s Deep. Forth Eorlingas!
I don’t particularly like Arwen’s expanded role, but all I’m hoping is that she doesn’t fight. I do wish they’d stuck in the bit from Elrond about Aragorn not being allowed to marry her unless he became king…
Did anyone else notice that there’s a durian fruit in Bag End, on the shelf in the kitchen? I think you can see it about Frodo’s head when Gandalf’s telling him about the history of the Ring. Big spiky thing. Also caught the tension between what Isildur’s writing say about the Ring, and what Aragorn does… Isildur writes something like, “All my descendants shall be bound to its fate, and shall not suffer any harm to come to it…”. Very interesting.
Actually, I had an epiphany. I think Legolas is hot mostlybecause he reminds me of my fiance. They even move in a similar way. Also interesting, I think…

Don’t you suspect the sword lpay thing in the trailer is when she wants to follow him to the whatchamacallit of the dead?

That’s Eowyn, not Arwen.

Never mind.

What was that someone was mentioning earlier on this thread, that the trailer “implied” that Arwen would die and that Eowyn would be Aragorn’s new love interest? I hope there isn’t any basis for this outside someone’s personal impression. I didn’t think the trailer implied that at all, and I hope it isn’t true. For the record, I don’t mind an expanded role for Arwen at all. However, I would mind if they “replaced” her with Eowyn. That would just be wrong, and if they stay even remotely close to the book it wouldn’t make sense for her to end up with him. Rather, I felt that all the expanded stuff of Arwen in TTT was to up the voltage on the love-triangle from the book. This seems the most likely to me, and it’s also what I’d prefer.

Based on the images choosen in the trailer and the way traditional trailers are structured…it is heavily IMPLIED that Arwen “dies” (a quick shot of the two embracing and smiling which I believe is followed later by the overhead shot of her laying down in an awkward position.) and the scenes with Aragorn and Eowyn establish her as a new interest for Aragorn. (in their sparring she is shown to be his ‘equal’, which the love interest must be) Now that last part about Eowyn is true to some extent. Eowyn does have a crush on Aragorn. I think some of the movie will pad out the love triangle.

Do I think she dies? No. But that is the way the trailer teases it.

Is Eowyn the new love interest? Yes. It’s one-sided but yes.

Well, since they already filmed the sequence where Aragorn is on his deathbed 120 years after the start of the 4th age, and Arwen is there pleading with him not to give up life yet, I don’t think we have to worry about Arwen checking out too soon.

the whatchamacallit of the dead?

You know, Whosywitchit goes into that thing to get the dead dudes to help kick whats-his-names ass.
Gee.

The Paths of the Dead.

Maybe Arwen Recumbant is just her being in a bad mood about something … Eowyn, maybe, or a tiff with Daddy about her not wanting to leave Middle-earth. Or maybe she’s just tired from all that banner-making. But I really doubt she’s dead.

Agreed.
I just don’t want to see Arwen replace Eowyn in the battle scenes, which actually won’t be until Return of the King. Arwen isn’t the warrior, Eowyn is.

If anybody finds a better download, post it. The one I linked above was quite black and I could barely see what was going on.

Duh! I know Arwen isn’t going to die you knobs!

Define “knobs”.

Oh dear. I thought they were going to release the real trailer on the weekend. Drat. (Pause.) They’re putting Aragorn’s death in ROTK? What? I think they should stick in Elrond’s heavy-father speech, where he tells Aragorn that he can’t marry Arwen without becoming King first. That would be fun.
