But neither of them are playing an immortal demigoddess.
Well, then they should cast Jamie Alexander. She’s got the chops.
This. I am the last person to say someone is “too old” - especially actors - but for this role Diana *must *convincingly be in her prime, which means an actress no more than 30 or so. “People can’t tell me from my daughter” isn’t good enough.
Wait until hell freezes over, you.
The most recent decade or so has her quite athletic.
For those saying that she’s too skinny, all actors are too skinny when they get cast as superheroes. That’s when they get put on the vigorous weight training program to bulk up for the film.
She won’t ever be physically imposing, but Jamie Alexander’s Sifis hardly an example of strapping either. She still works.
Pretty much my first thought as well. I’ve no opinion on the casting, but it’s going to be a very busy movie, and that rarely works out well.
Mind you, DC movies seem to have a long history of doing that - to their detriment, IMO.
I think she looks like a good choice, it’s just the rest of the movie I’m worried about. The most I’m hoping for is that she gets a standalone movie next that isn’t written by Zack “How Did You Fuck Up Sucker Punch” Snyder.
I love these mock-ups of Colbie Smulders, but she’s probably tied to the Marvel franchise now, as is Jamie Alexander. It would be like “Harry Potter” getting Ian MacKellan to play Dumbledore after Richard Harris died.
I was more optimistic about Wonder Woman when it was originally a (rumored?) Joss Whedon thing. I mean he really seems to get off on women who kick some ass.
To that point, not so much about what Diana Prince “ought” to look like, but remember it’s not like Buffy or River or the like were Chyna from the WWF, but they could still scrap.
I still would have loved to see Gina Torres in the role, but I don’t think fandom is in the mood for a Cuban Wonder Woman.
According to Esquire magazine, “fitness coach”. I guess that means she’ll have no problems getting into shape for the role.
I’m ready for a Cuban Wonder Woman, if she’s Gina Torres. She was incredible in Cleopatra 2525. Beautiful, too. A younger Lucy Lawless would get my vote as well. I’m trying to think of any current younger actresses who look the part and have a certain kickass/fitness quality to them, but I’m drawing a blank here. I’m sure I will come up with it as soon as someone else suggests her in this thread. That’s the way it tends to work.
