The “Fast & Furious” actor will play Diana in the WB’s forthcoming 2015 Superman / Batman movie.
I’m happy to wait until I see the movie to make a judgement (always a good idea), but I was hoping for someone whose physique is less “skinny supermodel” and more “buff WWE Diva.” That said, Chris Pratt went through a transformation for his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy role (not to mention his Zero Dark 30 appearance), so maybe Gadot will get more “Amazonian” in the intervening months.
Although she needs some acting lessons, I’ve always liked Gina Carano for Wonder Woman.
Never heard of her, pretty girl, looks way too fragile to be Wonder Woman.
But I don’t have much vested worry in who plays Wonder Woman so more power to her and I hope they manage to make her look a little more solid via movie magic or whatever.
It’s worth noting that being Israeli, she did her two years in the Israel Defense Forces. That sounds impressive to me, but I’ll admit to not knowing in what capacity she served and how rigorous her training was.
Yep. I think we’re going to get a millennial-pleasing iteration of WW, far from the rather imposing and strapping original and more a big-busted supermodel.
But in an era when Monroe and Mansfield would be considered outright porkers, I guess a well-built Diana in the original mold just wouldn’t pass. So we’ll get boobs and slenderness and “magic powers” instead of a broad-shouldered, athletic asskicker.
As long as she and Ben Affleck make at least one disparaging comment at each others’ casting, I’ll live with it.
At least with Batman you don’t have to work in an origin story at this point. But presumably if you’re gonna drop in Wonder Woman in a film you have to do the backstory… the other alternative is to have her just wander in and say “Hi guys, whad I miss?” but I don’t see how that wouldn’t be awkward and kinda fourth-wall-kickdownery.
To be fair, from the beginning, the portrayal of Wonder Woman has tended to be of a slender or average physique despite her Amazonian power set.
I had thought that a imposing physique would be a better reflection of contemporary attitudes of an empowered female role model; and that the “beauty pageant type” is actually more of an outdated image of the hero.
This is looking more and more like a train wreck. The casting seems fine I suppose, don’t get me wrong, but unless WW is just a cameo or extended cameo how in the world is this movie going to have time for all these characters and not seem crowded and disjointed?
I have said it before and I will say it again. The Man of Steel sequel should ave been another Superman story. Give the character some time to breathe. And then they could do a story with Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman. They see nothing but dollar signs and are trying to skip to the success of The Avengers and forgetting the years of build up (and risk) that took.
I hope I am surprised but I suspect this movie will disappoint.
Too old, unfortunately. Still one of the loveliest women to ever stand in front of a lens and at 30 or so, an ideal Diana… but she’s not young enough to play this role any more.
As for working her into the film, look at how she crossed through the story in “Identity Crisis” - all the backstory and setup could be confined to a few images and lines of dialogue, and then There She Is.
I think if they can get Gwyneth Paltrow to pump up a bit for Iron Man 3, they can make this lady look the part. Remember how Sarah Michelle Gellar’s spindly little arms looked in Buffy? Okay, that’s not a good example…
Wow she’s [del] young enough to be my daughter[/del] easy on the eyes. I agree she’s kinda tiny for Wonder Woman, though. I was expecting someone built more like Xena, who was also easy on the eyes, in a different way.
Morena Baccarin is too tiny to play a Wonder Woman action figure. She’s roughly the size of a box of Tic Tacs. A lovely box of Tic Tacs, yes, but not an Amazon, regardless of WW’s average-size-roots.
I don’t know, both of those early Wonder Woman drawings look more muscular than the pictures I’m finding of Gadot. I mean, she’s not exactly depicted as a bodybuilder, but you can at least see some muscle definition in them.
She’s 42. Gwyneth Paltrow, who somebody else mentioned, did a credible job in Iron Man 3 and she’s 41. Ming-Na Wen is playing an action heroine on Agents of Shield at 50.
