Galactic!

There has to be other Galacticfans on the Boards, and if there aren’t there soon will be if you give them a listen. Calling them New Orleans funk is about as close as it gets description-wise, but it’s not even close.

Posting because I’m getting to catch them for a couple shows next weekend and can barely contain myself. Haven’t caught them live since last summer. Anyone take in a recent show? Who are they touring with?

Count me as a fan as well, although I’ve only seen them live once, and that was at least 5 years ago. I did see Stanton Moore with an organ trio where Anders Osborne sat in for a few tunes; IMHO he’s the backbone of Galactic, and brings up the musicianship of any group he’s in.

Stanton’s mentor is Johnny Vidacovich, who’s quite a talent in his own right, and likes to mix it up with various genres.

If you like Galactic, you should do yourself a favor and check out The Greyboy Allstars.

Never heard of them.

I’m a regular virgin Galactic.

Love the Greyboys! Caught them at a festival … in 2008? 2009?

Going to check out Astral Project as soon as work is done (thanks Rhapsody!).

‘Virgin Galactic’, heh

hey, that’s good.

Huge fan for well over a decade. Live at Tips and Carnival Electricos are great albums - made ten years apart and have completely different musical styles.

“Tiger Roll” performed at Bonnaroo is one of my favorite songs. A very tough/cool instrumental. Excellent stuff.

Well, we saw them last week at Park West in Chicago, and I was a little meh about the whole thing. I am a huge fan of funk and jazz, and they just weren’t that good. The bass player and guitar player stood in one spot the whole time, and the guitar player scowled all the way through it. The drummer was very good, but I’m doubtful about a New Orleans horn section with no trumpet.

I will say that the trombone player had loads of stage presence. They were with singer Maggie Koerner, who was okay, I guess - again, not much of a presence. For a few songs, they were joined by a Neville (I don’t recall his first name), and that was excellent. But overall, just meh.

I was expecting much more, and it just wasn’t there. I’ve seen way better funk at Blues Fest or even my local bars on occasion. I was surprised and disappointed.

Just saw them with Maggie Koerner leading most of the set at NOLA Jazzfest (1st weekend).

Personally, I thought she had lots of stage presence - and very easy on the eyes, too; it’s just a big departure from what I remember the band being about.

I agree with what I think is the band’s intention - to get her more exposure, and having Galactic as your backing band gives you plenty of street cred down the road, but methinks she’d be much better off with a less eclectic group where she could really shine, and let the band go back to what they’re good at.

There’s plenty of YouToob vids out there with Maggie/Galactic of varying audio quality; check out AXS TV’s broadcast from Jazzfest (if they repeat it) - audio is impressive.
P.S. I know The Meters backed Patti LaBelle, but I don’t think they toured extensively

Nice. We caught back-to-back shows with her art the Cap Theater and then Terminal 5. Second night encore was a jaw-dropping Gimme Shelter. We were impressed before; blown Away after.

Hitting five fests and a few shows this summer… can’t believe Galactic isn’t in the cards.

Big fan. Saw them years ago in New Orleans a few times, and they rocked. They recently came through town and the show was kinda meh. Not bad, but it just didn’t fully click. Maggie Koerner is a great singer, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

It’s probably just me being picky, and I’d certainly see them if they come back
