I am going to attempt to moderate this game that I have put together. As you will see, various elements of the game are not original with me, but the game as a whole is my creation.
This a game where you can build up a trust relationship with your current playing partner or you can burn your partner.
I will number the rules so that you can refer to them easily if you have questions.
-
The game will consist of up to 12 players. If after a period of time we have not had 12 players sign up, we will start the game and play fewer rounds.
-
On each round players will be paired up with one other player unless there is an odd number of players still in the game. In that case one player will not participate in the round. (See rule 12)
-
At the start of each round, players will be given a summary of possible scores similar to the example below.
Both players build: 5 points each (minus the fee)(see rule 7).
Both players burn: 1 point each
One player builds, other player burns: 11 points for the burner, 0 points for the builder. -
Players will have a certain amount of time to PM me with a message saying one of three things: “Burn”, “Build and I pay the fee”, “Build and my partner pays the fee”.
-
At the end of the allotted time period, PMs will be compared to each players partners PM and scores will be awarded.
-
Scoring will be according to the summary given at the beginning of the round.
-
If both players choose build, they must pay a fee. This fee will always be the same amount. If both players agree on who should pay the fee, the fee will be 1 point for the player that it was decided should pay it. If the players disagree on who should pay the fee, the fee will be 2 points for both players.
-
The amount of points awarded for both players building will increase by variable amounts throughout the game. The amount of points given to a burning player against a building player will always be from 1 to 5 points more than the combined amount of a pair of building players. Pairs in which both players burn will always be awarded 1 point each.
-
Scoring is cumulative. At no time will scores be made public.
-
Players may communicate with anyone, at any time, by any means throughout the game.
-
Between certain rounds there will be “information sales”. Prices will generally go up during the game but here is an example:
Your current place in the standings posted publicly: 2 points
Your current place in the standings PMed to you: 5 points
A list of all scores (without names): 9 points -
Players can purchase information even if they do not have the amount of points of the cost. There score will go negative.
-
Before rounds with an odd number of players there will be a reverse auction to determine who will not participate. I will offer a certain number of points for a person to sit out. If players are willing to take that offer or less than that offer they may PM me. Whoever bids the lowest will receive the points and sit out the next round. In case of a tie, the first person to bid that amount will receive the points and sit out. I will announce approximately half way through the auction period what the current low bid is.
-
The game will progress as follows (assuming 12 players):
Round 1: Players randomly matched.
Round 2: Players randomly matched but will not have same partner as round 1.
Information sale.
Round 3: Players randomly matched but will not have a previous partner this round.
Round 4: Players randomly matched. From this point on you may play against players you have met before. The low score will be eliminated after this round.
“Sit-out” auction.
Round 5: Players randomly matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
Information sale.
Round 6: Players power matched (1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, etc.). Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
“Sit-out” auction.
Round 7: Players randomly matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
Information sale.
Round 8: Players randomly matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
“Sit-out” auction.
Round 9: Players randomly matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
Information sale.
Round 10: Players power matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
“Sit-out” auction.
Round 11: Players randomly matched. Lowest remaining score eliminated after round.
Information sale.
Round 12: Players randomly matched. This is the final round. High score after this round is the winner.
Special Notes: Please realize that if you sign up for this game it could take up to two months to complete once it is started.
I currently do not have plans for any trips out of town, but if plans changed and I found myself out of contact for a few days, the game would be placed on hold until I could get back to it.
Unfortunately, I cannot place the game on hold for players that are going to be away. If I do not receive an action PM from you, you will automatically do “build and I pay the fee.” If you know in advance that you are going to be away you can give me advance notice of what you wish to do, and I will also send a single PM that you have left me to your partner for you.
Feel free to ask questions about anything I did not make clear. If you wish to play please indicate so in this thread.
