So, whatcha fixing for your Super Bowl/commercial-watching extravaganza? Are you having a party, or just watching en famille, or going to a sports bar?
It looks like we’ll have a couple of “extras,” tomorrow - my dad and uncle and a friend/colleague of my husband’s. At Mr. Matata’s request, I’m making hot wings (with celery and carrots on the side, of course) lasagna, garlic bread, and salad for dinner; and white chocolate macadamia cookies for dessert. And beer.
We aren’t that much into football, but my Wife is from Pittsburgh so we will watch.
I happen to be making beef barley soup today any way. I’ll be using left over prim rib bones and meat that I had kept frozen just for this purpose. Should be pretty good. Got the broth done yesterday.
I’m not much into football, but my SO is, so we’re having some people over just for the fun of it. Some of them are football fans, some aren’t.
I decided to make it a Souper Bowl party. I figure they’re probably going to be drinking way too much, and soup is a good way to rehydrate them without nagging them to drink water between shots. So I’ve made chicken rice soup and taco soup (sort of a thinned out chili with assorted beans), and got some chips ‘n’ dip and pigs in blankets. I asked everyone else to bring a munchie to share, so we’ll see what we end up with!
I’m doing my traditional fried and greasy finger foods:
Veggies and dip (served first to make sure we get at least something healthy)
Little pizzas (that’s what we call English muffin pizzas, my husband’s favorite food)
Homemade French Fries
Homemade onion rings
Pork taco empanadas
This should be plenty for me, my husband, my daughter, and my daughter’s boyfriend. Plus plenty of beer.
