Game of Thrones 4.07 "Mockingbird" 5/18/14 [no spoilers]

Exactly, now not only was the killing justified it also puts Sansa in his corner.

For an instant, I was thinking that Pod and Hot Pie should recognize each other.

My fear is that Brienne and Pod will try to “rescue” Arya and there will be tragic results.

In an earlier thread, someone suggested that the Red Priestess would turn the daughter to witchcraft rather than sacrificing her.

Superb episode.

Everything about it was wonderful except for Danerys. I get the feeling that it’s just a waste of time spending any time showing her story.

Someone upthread said “one trick pony”. I have to agree. There is one point about her role. Slavery is bad. OK. I think people understand that. But … what else? Is that all?

I think that Lysa’s death could have been done in a much more exciting way. I don’t think the showrunner spent hardly any time trying to make that scene very interesting or exciting.

But I really do enjoy the way Sansa’s mind is growing. She may well become a real force to be reckoned with. I certainly hope so, anyway.

That would be kind of cool, actually. She’s a smart kid and some career skills (like magic stuff) would make her an asset to the family. Right now her future is either locked in a tower or married off to some desperate or blind guy.

Who am I kidding? She’s too nice to survive much longer.

Why would they think they need to rescue her?

I LOVE the new casting for the Mountain. The guy they had in Season 2 was far too skinny. This guy though… damn.

Oh, yep, I’d spaced it was Memorial Day weekend. That makes sense.

I give them respect for ever even trying to air a new episode on Memorial Day weekend back in season 1. Of course “nobody” (relatively speaking) is around to watch tv on that Sunday night.

Spin machine activated: At least this extends the season an extra week.

Why were the prisoners forced to fight him? From a production standpoint, it’s a way to introduce the new actor and put him over as a monster heel, but is there any storyline reason to allow him to chop up prisoners for entertainment?

I’m assuming those were criminals condemned to die – and perhaps they even had some sort of choice – die by hanging, or by combat, with a glimmer of hope that if they somehow defeated the Mountain, maybe they would go free.

As for the Mountain, I think he just enjoys killing people, so he’d jump at the chance for this.

Remind me - I thought around the end of last season that Stannis became aware of trouble approaching from up north, in the form of white walkers and their army of undead killers, and that he’d decided playing the Game would have to be put on hold to deal with a bigger issue. Yet, here he is, borrowing money and plotting another invasion.

Agreed on all counts.

Nice quiet scene with the Hound, Arya and the dying farmer.

I laughed when Hot Pie sat down, uninvited, at Brienne’s and Pod’s table to chat. Their expressions were priceless. A talented baker, but he has some boundary issues.

Did anyone else jump in their seats when the guy hopped on the Hound’s back and bit him? I didn’t see that coming. Actually, come to think of it, I rather doubt those two could sneak up on the Hound and Arya undetected.

When the “Previously on Game of Thrones” bit aired, I kind of hoped we’d be seeing the Faceless Man again.

Pretty sure Stannis believes that winning the throne is necessary to deal with the bigger issue. He certainly doesn’t have the manpower/money/supplies to do it himself.

I didn’t catch that, but it maybe makes sense. It did seem stupid for him to kiss Sansa out in the open like that, but if it’s part of the plan it works.

I think I read somewhere that he was a competitor in the World’s Strongest Man competition, and did pretty well. He definitely looks like a World’s Strongest Man competitor.

I wonder if he’ll end up like Khal Drogo, in that all the fighting and battles didn’t kill him but maybe an infected wound will. But maybe not, since that would be the show repeating itself. I hope the Hound sticks around awhile, I do like his and Arya’s adventures.

I actually didn’t realize for a minute that he was supposed to be The Mountain because the guy was so different.

He’s the third mountain they’ve cast.

It’s actually a shame they didn’t cast that guy originally. You look at that guy and immediately think, “His nickname is either a sincere ‘The Mountain’, or an ironic ‘Tiny’”. Maybe they can go back and digitally add him over the other actors. It shouldn’t be difficult - he’ll cover up every inch of screen space they previously occupied.

The actor from the first season is actually 4 inches taller than this guy

Because if they spot Arya in the company of the Hound–depending on the context-- they may assume she’s in danger on account of IT BEING THE HOUND.

I wonder if Stannis is actually on his way to the Wall. Did the ravens also warn that the Wildling army is marching south? Stannis could be hoping to broker a deal with the Wildlings to sede a portion of the north to them in return for giving him a section of their army to take King’s Landing and the throne.
