Dinklage was also amusing in the UK film “Death at a Funeral”, and also in the American remake (where he played the same role, although the rest of the cast was different).
And I have a friend, John, who was at Bennington College at the same time as Dinklage. I remember asking John if he remembered Dinklage from there. (There are only about 600 students at Bennington College and I assume that Dinklage would have stood out even there.) John claimed not to remember him, but then again, John never socialized much. Later John remembered him, saying that Dinklage had dreadlocks then and described him as a bit of a douche.
I don’t think so. This was just him being a sadistic jackhole. You don’t practice your martial skills by taking on barely armed, untrained, convicts suffering from malnutrition.
Jaime wasn’t taking on orphans when trying to improve his skill with his only hand, he was fighting a skilled good swordsman.
Honestly, I’m stumped going into the next episode, because I can’t imagine Oberyn or the Mountain dying at this point. Obviously, it’s GOT, anyone can die at any time, but they’re both fairly new characters that seem important. Plus, most deaths have been fairly surprising situations. I think this is really the first time where we’ve had a a “two semi-important characters enter, one semi-important character leaves” deal.
I’m hoping they go the reverse Mountain route with Dany, showing less and less of her, only hearing about her exploits from other, way more interesting characters like Varys. I’m also happy about the prospect of never seeing her naked again. Her self-confident(without having anything to be confident about) smirk bothers me to no end.
Littlefingers kiss was one of the most embarrasing things I’ve seen on television, HBO deserves credit for that, and his line about how “In a world where love would triumph, you could have been my daughter, but you’re not - the world is a terrible place, so lets make a daughter instead!” must have been one of the worst pick-up lines I’ve ever heard.
The Mountain is more like a Force of Nature than a character. I could see him dying. Plus if Oberyn dies you lose two great characters (Him and Tyrion who would surely be executed). However, of course, no one is safe on this show obviously.
The mountain has been a minor character that was barely seen or heard about so far, his only real importance is in regards to the Hound and their back story.
This. We’ve barely seen The Mountain and he’s not really a political player or an interesting character in the series. He’s practically a plot device. Oberyn, on the other hand, has had more development since his introduction at the start of this season than The Mountain has since the beginning of the series.
Knowing Martin, I haven’t discounted the possibility that Oberyn will lose and we’ll lose Tyrion as well, but I think it would be detrimental to the series to burn two excellent characters in favor of a walking side of beef.
Hah. Although, that makes me realize how truly lucky Tyrion is to be alive - his father obviously wouldn’t have done much if Cersei had managed to off her little brother in his crib “Oops - did that pillow slip over his face? Oh well.”
I’m about 95% sure that Shae actually does love Tyrion, but there is still the possibility that she was putting on a show for him when she was acting like she loved him.
Now, about Jon Snow and that asshole in charge of Castle Black - we’re heading into Harry Potter and his human family territory here with that dink. Whatever Jon Snow says, he’ll do the exact opposite just because it’s Jon Snow saying it, regardless of how much sense it makes. It was interesting to see the Keeper of the Bridges or whatever his title was look like he very much wanted to agree with Jon, but didn’t want the political baggage that would come with disagreeing with Alliser the Asshole.
At this point, I think Tywin would be forced to execute Tyrion if he loses the trial by combat. Even if Tyrion asked for mercy (which he won’t), I think his outburst at the nobles during the trial would require Tywin to condemn him just to save face.
I don’t think trial by combat has to end in the death. Can’t one of the champions yield? Unlikely since Oberyn has a blood feud and the Mountain is just a sadistic ass but it’s something to bear in mind.
I expect Jaime to be held to his promise to take over Casterly Rock. Whether Tyrion lives or dies, all Tywin will care about is that he would have kept his word and spared him, and his lack of cooperation doesn’t change the fact that he and Jaime made a deal.
I got the impression that Tyrion’s plan was for Jaime to be his champion, since he was the first one asked. It would have been a great way to spit in Tywin’s face (which Tyrion himself even mentions to Jaime as a joke).
Spoiler: he adopts an adorable funny black orphan who is, ironically, shorter than Tyrion. Charlotte Rae joins the cast as his housekeeper Mistress Garrat, and Emmanuel Lewis as his squire Ser Webbister.
I would imagine so, but it’s probably a massive hit to your honor if you do. Otherwise, the prosecution could always just pay off the defendant’s champion to immediately yield to get an almost immediate guilty verdict.
