He’d lose the Vale because the lords there don’t care for him all that much. They stayed neutral in the last war. Why would they stay beholden to a traitor whom they still are suspicious about the death of Lysa Tully?
The Trident is closer to King’s Landing than Winterfell and he’s only been Lord of Harrenhall and Protector of the Trident for a short time. Why would the Lords there follow Littlefinger into war? They don’t even know him.
Now granted…right this second he’s in a good position to secure his stuff with Ceresi in jail and being on good terms with Oleanna. But he wasn’t in position to know all that when he set Sansa up in Winterfell.
Yes he is. Meryn Trant. I think Arya’s list has got a lot shorter recently. Not even sure if the Mountain is still on there, and whether Arya is up to date with current ‘state’ of him.
They seem to fully believe Sansa’s story, to trust Littlefinger and not to have been so happy under the lead of Sansa’s aunt. It seems to me that fighting against the Lannisters has been mentioned at the end of the last season by Littlefinger to the main lords of the Vale.
Why not? It’s not like they knew any better the previous lords of the trident (one recently beheaded at Castle Black). And he has a lot of money to help.
And regarding both issues : to whom would these people be faithful instead? The Lannisters seem to be a lost cause at this point, and their authority probably doesn’t go beyond King’s landing and Castely Rock. I can see the Tyrell taking over (via Margaery and her grandma, deciding on behalf of the king), but they’re friends with Littlefinger at this point. Stannis Baratheon if he suceeds? Maybe, but it has been pointed out many times that he isn’t liked.
It seems to me there is a power vacuum at this point and nobody some local lord should obviously be faithful to. Littlefinger is legitimately lord of the trident, at least, accepted as protector of the Vale by the local nobility, and presumably will receive the support of the Northerners if he marries Sansa.
He was already in good terms with Olenna, having organized Joffrey’s murder. And it was presumably obvious that Cersei would fail big time, even if not in this particular way. And I’m sure he was in King’s Landing to help that happens.
No, Littlefinger is lord of Harrenhall. Walder Frey might be Lord of the Riverlands, I’d have to go back and watch to find out for sure. Probably mentioned in the episode after the Red Wedding?
When Arya was waiting outside the House of Black and White (is that right?), she kept going over her list, and IIRC, it was: Meryn Trant, Cersei Lannister, The Mountain. So yes it’s getting shorter, and yes The Mountain is still on it. Pretty sure Arya has no idea that The Mountain is all monstered up.
I am very much looking forward to Arya meeting up with Meryn Trant in Braavos. I’d be very surprised if he isn’t going to be her practice kill with her upcoming face-changing powers. It’s also possible that one of her first new faces is going to be the girl she recently helped euthanize.
We don’t know that either - it’s been strongly hinted at, but unless you just posted a spoiler, we don’t know exactly what’s going on with the ex-Mountain.
Are you sure about that? I wasn’t sure if Frey got it or if they shifted the title from Riverrun to Harrenhal for Baelish. I thought it was the latter, but I’m not sure.
I think it’s a little more likely he is getting in position to take full power in the north, and since winter lasts several years there, he has to deal with both frozen zombies and white walkers. There will be no deals he can make with them. With this fight on his hands he may welcome the crazy chick with 3 dragons as an ally.
I can see him maneuvering to marry Daeny and getting killed by Ser Jorash. Or looking at the field more realistically then working to be her Hand of the Queen.
I think it was littlefingers while the riverlands were in rebellion, but i wouldn’t be surprised if it went to the Freys as part of their betrayal of Robb. Specially since Littlefinger had already bailed to the Vale.
“I really can’t remember. We’ve given the bloody thing away to so many people.”
I would guess that LF is Lord of Harrenhall to be sure. I think he is Protector of the Trident, while Frey is Lord of Riverrun. So technically Frey answers to LF (yeah right).
Ah, right you are, I forgot about Frey (pun intended). I just pulled up and verified it, it’s those four.
As for what I said about The Mountain, it’s just speculation based on what we’ve seen so far. Qyburn said he might be able to fix him up, Cersei asked if it would make him weaker, he said “oh no.” I just assumed that we’re eventually going to get a zombie Mountain, and there’s been no indication that Arya is aware that The Mountain is anything but alive and normal.
