Weekend at Jon Snow’s?
I’m more incredulous that the priest guy was at six different battles where the resurrected guy dies and the priest doesn’t. At some point it seems like the priest guy would realize that the other dude sucks at battle and just leave let him RIP.
Well we know that they weren’t all battles. The death we witnessed was a duel (which he almost won), and IIRC one death was from hanging. But your point stands - dude was seriously bad at surviving.
I think the Mountain killed him once, so you can’t hold that against him. I suspect, he sought out high value targets, which got him killed so much.
Also, you’d think someone would twig to the fact that he keeps coming back from the dead and kill the priest instead.
That’s what I do in RPGs. Kill the necromancer first.
I would think that Beric attempted the most dangerous missions after he found out he could be brought back, and Thoros wouldn’t even be in the main fighting since it’s not worth it to risk losing that power.
I imagine the vast majority of their combat was ambushes or raids where the dangerous part is only for the guys right up in it.
I kinda want to see Melisandre-as-Snow do stuff like randomly strip naked and try to seduce any man “he” comes across that might have a drop of royal blood or babble about the Red God in a strange accent.
Some Essos geography help please – Where did the Dothraki horde pick Dany up? Was it serendipitous for Daario and Ser Friendzone to walk to exactly the spot where she dropped the ring, or is it the sole land route one could take from Mereen?
I’m not sure that that is entirely clear. The dragon dropped her off somewhere. There aren’t a kit of details on how far away.
The Dothraki Sea is basically all of the area due north of Mereen. I think we saw her at a river at some point while she was hanging out with Drogon, but I could be wrong. In any case, they were basically tracking Drogon - we saw them finding the charred goat; and we can assume there are other markings of a dragon (dung, scorched earth, etc.) that would help them figure out where he was roosting fairly easily.
Still, pretty ridiculous that they’d be able to find a tiny little ring in a field of grass.
Not entirely. They saw the great circular area of ground that was torn up by horses, surrounding a smaller green area where Dany was standing. If they went to the center of the green area, that would put them very close to where she dropped the ring. The chances of finding move from ridiculous to only unlikely. Certainly conceivable, with a little luck.
The ring is trying to get back to its master. It wants to be found.
And always remember: Pillage first, then burn.
Something that occurred to me during the season break.
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all the nights to come.
Since Jon is (mostly) dead, he is released from his vow.
I haven’t seen anyone else point this out, though I’m sure it’s occurred to others.
Personally I expect that once Jon returns, the Night’s Watch is going to lose a bunch more personnel, IE all the Snow stabbers. Except maybe the kid, Ollie - but this is GoT so maybe even him. But maybe the Night’s Watch is about to end as an effective force.
Thanks for the map. If the Dothraki Sea is very roughly 2400 x 1200 miles, that would be 2,880,000 square miles or let’s say about the size of Australia. Good thing Jorah looked down when he did.
Well, it hasn’t really been effective large scale since the start of the show.
Which also makes Alliser’s points ridiculous. The Night’s Watch was doomed long before Snow got there and he was the only reason they lasted as long as they did.
I believe someone mentioned it in the Valar Hiatus thread.
One of the shocking things about Robb Stark’s death was that it did away with the leading contender to restore the Stark’s fortunes. While there were a bunch of Starks still running around hither and yon, none of them were in the heroic mold except Jon, and he was out of the running because of his oath. Releasing him from it allows him to replace Robb in that role. Likewise all the talk of legitimizing bastards last season, including both Ramsay and Jon, suggests that sooner or later he’ll become Jon Stark.
All right, men! We’re going to kill the men, rape the women, and pillage the village! And for Odin’t sake, get it right this time!
As someone else stated, that spot was marked by the way that the grass was trampled by horses, in typical Dothraki fashion. Once they were in the general vicinity, it wouldn’t be hard to find the spot where Daenerys was captured.
