When Brienne and Pod started killing the Bolton party, what happened to the dogs? I would have expected them to join the fight.
So, who did we not see this ep?
Bran and Rickon and their respective traveling companions. Of course, we haven’t seen either in quite a while.
Littlefinger? Is he still in the Eyrie?
Samwell and Gilly
They’ve really consolidated a lot of the storylines by bringing some major characters together. Brienne and Sansa and Theon are together. Jaime’s back in King’s Landing with Cersei. Stannis is dead and Davos and Melisandre are at the Wall with (only-mostly-dead?) Jon. Tyrion, Varys, Ser Jorah, Dany… well, they were all together in Mereen briefly.
First off, it was not the mad king it was his son suspected of being Jons father.
Second off Jon is not immune to fire, Like Danerys brother getting burned by hot wax Jon got his hand burned by the lantern during the fight with the wight.
so If they burn him, hes toast for reals.
I kinda wonder if the red woman will end up dying to bring Jon back though.
The old people full frontal ranks up there with under dick among things I never expected nor did I need to see in this show.
I know, I wasn’t expecting most of those deaths. Who the hell is in charge of Dorne now? I’m looking forward to After the Thrones tomorrow for sure.
I was assuming that that’s just what she does every night… takes off the collar and goes to bed, then in the morning puts it back on. A bit like Grandmaester Pycelle, but in reverse, and with magic.
I thought it was a good episode, if not great.
Things I liked:
-Brienne to the rescue, predictable as it was. But the fact that there were hounds baying, so she and Pod could presumably hear them, made it much more plausible. Not like she didn’t know Sansa was in the area. And the fight was brutal
-Cersei and Jamie
-Nice to see Margaery again, I was afraid she was going to vanish
-Tyrion and Varys wandering around totally unguarded seemed a bit rash. Surely people know about a dwarf with a scarred face
-The scenes with Dany and the Dothraki were fun, although I hope that that plotline has more heft to it than just “oh, she has to go to this temple” “ok, Daario and Jorah rescue her from the temple”
-Arya. The sound editing when she was listening was quite well done.
Things I didn’t like:
-Little girl sand snake getting the drop on the big bodyguard
-Where did the second scene take place at all? Last we saw Tristane, he was on a boat to King’s Landing with Myrcella and Jamie, right? That was confusing
-I thought the first bits with Ser Davos, great as the actor is and the character is, were weird. Why the big rush to get a dead body inside? He’s dead! It seemed like they were instantly conspiring before even discussing what to conspire about and why. It was a bit rushed.
Oh yeah the sand snakes, WTF was the girl with the whip going to do? Shes in a cabin on a frakin boat with a fraking whip? A bullwhip is about 99.9% garbage in a fight, when she was using it to help out her sisters it actually made some kind of sense, but as a primary weapon in a space that small. No wonder he chose her.
He was painting an eye stone, same as the ones we saw on Tywin at his funeral last season. It’s a pretty safe assumption he was making it for Myrcella’s funeral.
That, to me, means he was still on the ship that carried Jamie et al to King’s Landing. In protective custody AKA as a hostage.
The Sand Snakes presumably followed them there in a boat of their own, snuck on board, silently ninja-assassinated everyone else on board, yada yada yada.
I think you’re letting the bad taste of their story last year influence this perception. This was a significant amount of movement on the Dorne plot at least. Doran was an interesting character, though, and I wish we’d have seen him more.
The cabin scene was kind of confusing. I guess Jaime left him on the boat to protect him from Cersei’s wrath? So I guess the sand snakes immediately caught a boat, found his boat, and were delivered by a small seal team 6 submersible to make a stealth assault. Or I suppose it could be docked.
The imagery of Mellisandre going to bed was odd, since it was the middle of the day (the ultimatum was for nightfall) and she was supposed to do something to help them. So presumably she isn’t merely going to sleep normally but performing some sort of ritual or sacrifice. The way that she looked extremely sad also did not seem like a routine thing she does all the time, but something significant, like that was the first time she saw her real self in a long time, and/or was about to take an unpleasant action.
Brienne is really good at finding key places to be for the plot. I guess it makes sense at least that she could hear the dogs. At least her 5th or 6th attempt to convince a Stark girl to allow her to protect them worked. Good to see Theon made a move to redeem himself before she showed up.
I really hope the Night’s Watch rebels against Thorne, and it isn’t just the few guys with Davos that are willing to avenge Snow. I hope the guys in the mess hall were just biding their time and are waiting for their moment to turn on him.
Insta-theory I just came up with: Edd went off to find reinforcements for the Jon Snow Memorial Brigade.
Maybe, instead of fetching some Wildlings, he runs into the Brotherhood Without Banners and brings back that well-known resurrectionist, Thoros of Myr.
I thought Melisandre was actually committing suicide. Seeing a dead Jon Snow meant that all of her visions were apparently wrong, and therefore the Lord of Light had abandoned her or something. I got the feeling that the necklace is never supposed to be taken off, and taking it off and then going to bed meant that she would die of old age in bed.
She’ll be saved at the last moment by the men banging on her door for help against the Watch.
Weird theory: we’ve had the War of the Five Kings, this season we’ll have The Conflict of the Five (sorta) Queens.
There’s Cersei and Margery in King’s Landing, and Danny somewhere in Esteros. I have no idea how Dorne succession works, but might one of the Sand Snakes be next in line? Get Sansa declared Queen in the North and we’re there.
The recap in The New York Times linked to a photo from an earlier episode showing her without the necklace, so I don’t think it’s simply that the magic is in the necklace.
