Game of Thrones 7.02 "Stormborn" 7/23/17

That wasn’t Yara, that was the two sand snakes. One got impaled and the other choked with her whip.

Jon meeting Dany has a couple interesting things to talk about. He said only a king will impress her. First, she won’t recognize him as a king and will want him to bend the kneed. Second, it’s not true as Tyrion, Varys, Yara, and Melisandre show. Speaking of Melisandre, will she still be there when Jon shows up? What will Davos do? What will Dany do upon learning about Shireen?

Colibiri that’s right. The ships with the Targaryen sails must have been the ships taken from the other slavers then? (Why didn’t Dany take those in the first place…)

Euron’s fleet will have to sail past the rest of Dany’s fleet to get to King’s landing or her fleet will sail past his on the way to Casterly Rock, although I guess they’ll somehow miss each other.

Yes she is.

My mistake. Yara’s probably better off dead too; at least Ellaria isn’t likely to be raped and tortured until she’s handed over to Cersei.

Ellaria would be treated better because she’s not related to Euron? I’d guess they’re both in for a pretty rough sail up to King’s Landing and then a quick public execution so lords like Randyll Tarly make the “right” choice.

It was a bit of a Greatest Hits call back, the only one missing was Gendry. The internet as reminded me that waaaaay back in season one, Ned asks Arya if she was going to marry a High Lord and rule a castle and raise knights and noblemen and Arya answered, “No. That’s not me.”

Do you think the writers heard all the belly aching about Sam’s scenes and decided they’ll really give us something to bitch about? Because I do believe they’re trolling us.

She took them, but they weren’t enough to transport the Unsullied and Dothraki.

These guys say they counted the ships in the shot, and came up with about 350. I think about 100 of these would have been from the Iron Fleet.

Milk of the poppy has been mentioned at least a dozen times in the previous six seasons but all Jorah gets is rum.

I thought of a few groan worthy puns regarding Missandei the linguist.

I don’t get the Sam hate. I was more annoyed at him pining for Gilly in earlier seasons than I am with him at Old town. His story arc is connecting the dots. I wonder if he’ll give Heartsbane to Jorah.

I still don’t understand why any of the Northern houses would follow John. He makes terrible decisions and has no control over his emotions. He just gave a speech about the need for allies. It’s John’s duty to build the alliance with the Vale. They won the battle of the bastards, not him.

I don’t understand Jon’s hostility towards Littlefinger either. He doesn’t know Littlefinger almost literally stabbed his ‘father’ in the back. Still, he does know that he handed her over to Ramsay. And that “I really want to fuck your stepma and sister” angle was not the best way to sidle up to Jon. But there’s a lot of hate there. Does he know something about Littlejohn that I’m forgetting?

I think Jon’s decisions are problematic in a political way, not a policy way. Letting the Wildlings through the Wall is the best policy, so is reconciliation with the Northern houses that turned on the Starks, so is trying to get Dany’s help. He really needs a Littlefinger to help him sell those plans though.

I don’t have a problem in the Northern houses following him. They all liked Ned, the Boltons took part in murdered friends and family of all of them at the Red Wedding, and Ramsay is crazy as hell. He’s without a doubt brave and heroic. Could definitely see them sour on him.

I think all he knows about Littlefinger is that he arranged Sansa’s marriage, that Sansa doesn’t trust him, and that he has a punchable face. Probably would have just worked out if Jon just stabbed him. His only real power in the Vale is through Robin. Just have Sansa tell him that Petyr died in battle and that Royce will look over Robin until he comes of age. Solved.

Nymeria is not able to return to being domesticated. She’s a Dire wolf, not a puppy. It sounded to me like Arya said “That’s not you.” (And that’s what the cc said on my screen.) I agree with the Ned call-back. Arya understood that neither she, nor Nymeria, were meant for a standard domestic role.

I think though, that back then she said, “That’s not me, that’s Sansa.” Which would be interesting IIRC.

What will Jon say when he sees Melisandre at Dany’s court? Will he warn Dany against Mel? How will Davos manage it?

Theon had no way to win that fight. He was swimming hard toward Euron’s ship when we faded out. He may yet save his sister. Euron’s laugh as his nephew began to dissociate was icy.

I really hope Sansa is as wise as she thinks she is re: Littlefinger. I doubt it.

Maybe it doesn’t interact well with something in the in cure. Or the maester just didn’t use it for whatever reason and Sam’s simply follow his instructions to the letter.

When I saw Arya with her guard down eating stuff Hotpie was handing her my first thought was “oh shit, the Waif tracked her down, killed Hotpie, disguised herself as Hotpie, and is now poisoning Arya!”
Glad I was wrong.

Littlefinger smiled after Jon choked him. He’s still got tricks up his sleeve, the schemer.

Not as unlikely as you might think, depending on weather and currents. There is a lot more open water than there are ships to patrol it on any ocean.

Okay, I have no idea why you think that disqualifies him from leading in the minds of the Northern houses ;). I mean I am dead certain that none of them have control over their emotions. Indeed I suspect they’d regard a cool Littlefinger type with utter contempt as some sort of emotionless dandy. Northerners seem to be all sturm und drang. They’re all a bunch of dumbass Ned Starks without the ironclad sense of honor ( except Lady Mormont, who is basically a tweener female Ned Stark ).

Jon Snow looks like a warleader, can swing a sword like a warleader and is good at rousing speeches. What more do they need? Strategy is for soft southerners that can’t fight like true northmen :D.

What has happened to my beloved GoT? I hope this cliche-filled crapfest episode isn’t a sign of things to come, because that would be a shame to end such a good series this way.

I thought he was thinking “Starks. Quick tempers. Slow minds” like he said to Ned after Ned choked him.

Jon’s hostility towards Littlefinger did seem excessive. The only reason I can think of is that Littlefinger delivered Sansa to Ramsay. I guess that’s enough. I would’ve liked to have seen a scene beforehand in which Jon is conflicted about Littlefinger saving him or showing that he hated Littlefinger or something - that level of hostility feels sudden.

It’s a callback to season 1, when Arya tells her dad(?) that her nature is Action Girl, not Needlepoint Nelly.

I’m compiling a list of Hot Pie’s rules of cooking:

  1. You CANNOT give up on the gravy.
  2. Brown the butter first.
