Game of Thrones 7.05 "Eastwatch" 8/13/17 [Show Discussion]

When I first started watching the show I thought they might have been trying to match characters’ accents with where they supposedly came from. But apparently they are just a hodge-podge with no real consistency. For example, the Stark children all have different accents. That’s one detail the producers screwed up on.

It’s like Sam had a Citadel checklist. Mountain of dragonglass…cure for greyscale…annullment. OK, my work here is done, let’s go.

Speaking of plot devices: I wonder why GRRM invented greyscale. The only person we know who caught it, got cured. If Jorah had never contracted it would the storyline have been any different?

Tyrion would be easily recognized no matter what he was wearing. After the bounty placed on his head I imagine there are few, if any, male dwarves left in Westeros.

He wouldn’t have been exiled that third time? Universe building, I guess?

Shireen Baratheon also had and was cured of the disease.

Wasn’t she mysteriously cured when she came to Dragonstone? I think GRRM might have intended greyscale to be related to dragons, and the dragonstone around her might have cured her greyscale. She certainly didn’t have it flayed off as Ser Jorah did.

So I was thinking we might find that a person afflicted with greyscale might gain other abilities, like the ability to ride dragons. But then, sometimes a good plot line gets droppped for sake of the overall story, or maybe he just couldn’t figure out a way to weave it into the plot as it developed so it might never really ‘pay off’ with a satisfactory reason. It might just be one of those weird things in this world.

I think Stannis has been at Dragonstone most of the time since Robert’s Rebellion, so she presumably would have been born there. She got greyscale as an infant from an infected doll. Stannis brought in every healer he could and the cure was attributed to that, but no one was sure which treatment was successful.

One would presume that if dragonglass cured it, she wouldn’t have become infected in the first place.

I posted it. #248.

Missed that. Thanks!

Apparently the Spanish HBO affiliate accidentally aired episode 6, so beware of spoilers.

Yeah, I thought the whole scene of Tyrion just pulling up in a boat in broad daylight and walking to his meeting ridiculous. It reminded me of that time that Jaime went to Dorn to get his daughter, just lazy.

The producers have said some of the Stark children were difficult to cast, Arya in particular(and it shows, an adult Maisie Williams is kinda stuggling imo). Im assuming acting ability and looks were foremost in the casting of many of these actors.

This episode recap is pretty brilliant: S7E5: Eastwatch, I thought you said Weastwatch? - Album on Imgur

Very nice.

Although, I don’t think I see all the sexual tension between Daenerys and Jon Snow that everyone else thinks is so obvious.

Both Robert and Kat never doubted that Jon was Ned’s son, and they knew him best. Ned’s father and brother both believed the kidnapping story and got killed for it, this would seem to indicate that the kidnapping story was widely believed with most of the people who knew the truth dying with Rhaegar in the battle against Robert.

It’s a show for Americans and to Americans every british accent is pretty much the same. English people can pick out regional accents but an American could hear the lowest class accent in Britain and think that person has tea and strumpets with the queen.

Very nice. But I miss that site that did GoT as Facebook every week.

Right, and I’m saying that if you knew the kidnapping story wasn’t true, you might begin to doubt the other things Ned was saying.

#mrvalyriansteelyourgirl is the funniest shit ever.

Ever try to go jogging with a teeny, tiny rock in your shoe? In the right place an external irritant can have an effect all out of proportiin to its size.

I don’t think that means what you think it means. I would expect the Queen to be more likely to have crumpets, but what do I know about the proclivities of royalty?
