Game of Thrones 8.02 "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" 4/21/19 [SHOW ONLY]

What’s been established is Daenerys hell bent on doing whatever it takes to get the iron throne for the past 8 years (which to her surely must feel like a lifetime compared to her first 17 years) I don’t find it a stretch for her to say she’s wanted it all her life even though it’s technically been a third of her life. There’s plenty of actual lazy writing point out , grouping in things like this is lazy critiquing

Something that caught my ear: After Sam gives his family sword to Jorah, he’s walking away but pauses and turns back to Jorah to say…

“I hope we win.”

Princess Bride reference, maybe?

So what? So she’s 5’0". She’s short. That doesn’t mean she didn’t obviously become an adult in that body.

I’ve come to realize that a huge proportion of the sexism in our society comes from the simple fact that so many men are so much taller than so many women. If women were all as tall as Gwendoline Christie and could look men straight in the eye - or down at them - equality would be taken for granted.

Season 2 Episode 7. She tries to cover it up because it means now she’ll have to marry Joffrey.

I think their feelings are their shared history of being tortured by Ramsey in Winterfell. And then Theon helping Sansa escape and his genuine remorse at all the shit he has caused and now he’s back to fight for her. In a weird way, he might be the closest “brother” she has left. It didn’t strike me as romantic, anyway.

It’s not just Theon, the Ironborn red shirts he brought with him are tagging along.

And now we’re caught up on all things Theon!

What do you think the Dragons are out doing?

A thousand times this. The season is 1/3 over now, and we’ve just been hanging around a castle the whole time, talking endlessly. Some of it was cool (e.g. knighting Brienne) but little of it necessary (e.g. Maisie working Gendry’s weapon).

I think something may come from the Tyrion Bran conversation. That particular ‘buddy moment’ was not required. If it wasn’t required then it may have consequences.

With regards to the Arya sex scene I think my hang-up about it is that the series producers have a dubious record of using gratuitous sex & nudity. At least this was the case in earlier seasons. I just don’t trust them when it comes to dealing with sexuality.

The Arya sex scene was uncomfortable to watch. Now, I don’t think it was gratutious*, it showed her growing up and it was good story telling. But yes, uncomfortable.

I think it was purposely played this way. Its a person who basically has had no childhood, at least the second part of it.

FWIW, the last 4 episodes are supposed to be roughly 25ish minutes longer than an average episode, which I think normally clock in at around 55 minutes. So that might be like 100 extra minutes over the last 4 episodes which is sort of like almost 2 episodes worth. I mean, it’s all relative (not a J+D pun), but maybe a silver lining.

Here’s hoping.

Thinking about this more, I think some of my impatience with the pacing is that this is the third episode in a row where character reunions and loose ends were a very large part of the episode, S7E7 being the first.

If killing the Night King is the priority, would it not make sense to put more of their top tier fighters around Bran rather than or in addition to Theon? Theon’s track record is fairly poor to begin with.

I understand that a lot of people liked this episode but with zero action, I found it to be boring. I realize that they did it this way in order to have the battle take up all of the next episode.

It’s not patriarchy. I feel it is more like a family member being surprised at how their “little girl/sister” is now all grown up, and that family member doesn’t want to “let go” of the image or memories of that “little girl”.

I wonder if, in the end of the series, the Night King flees back North of the Wall, and everyone realises how this is just another one of many thousand-year cycles.

It was nice to see they got that painting of Ghost out to hang in the background…

But here’s to the missing, some of which might turn up. A lot have been forgotten

Edmund Tully
Red Witch
Meera Reed
Robyn Arryn
Daario Naharis
HOT PIE!
Jaqen (could come in on the side of the dead)

Some of these lists include the leftover sand witches/worms whatever, and the shame nun. No shame nun? That would be a… Pity?

Anyone I’ve missed?

Yup, totally the most important development because they gave it zero meat. The Great Brain having a sit-down with The Guy Who Knows Everything at a time when the one thing everyone needs is a good idea (because the best they can come up with is to store the most fragile members of their society in a CRYPT when they’re expecting the arrival of a guy whose specialty is raising the dead :smack: ). Nothing needed to be said, we’ll all know what went down when Tyrion starts making up for all the times he’s disappointed his queen. He’s introducing the concept of “Intel” to The Northern Muscle heads.

I watched again last night, and at least during the Sansa scene (I don’t know, has she specifically stated this in others, too? Probably) … but when she talks about the quest to reclaim the throne, she doesn’t say that it’s all she ever wanted or has wanted it all her life. She says that the mission to reclaim the throne for her family is all she’s ever known.

Given that she did grow up with Viserys and was part of his plans and had to listen to his whining about his birthright and the usurper and whatever…yes, that’s all she’s ever known.

Wouldn’t the “shame nun” have been in the Great Sept during that ceremony, and therefore blown up?

She was in Cersei’s dungeon, getting acquainted with the semi-undead Mountain, when the Great Sept exploded.

Edmure Tully. I said in last week’s thread I expect him to make an appearance before the end. I expect to see Melisandre AKA the Red Witch, too. The others on your list… probably not.
