No, it’s Bolton’s bastard, Ramsey, incognito in the books. There’s a theory kicking around the fan sites that Dagmer might actually be Ramsey in disguise. I think that’s pretty stupid though, how or why Ramsey infiltrated the Iron Islands would require a lot of explaining.
I don’t know if they’ve ever referred to Dagmer as Cleftjaw on the show, although he’s clearly loosely based on Cleftjaw of the books. Book Dagmer was very different though, he was older and knew Theon as a boy, and he wasn’t even at Winterfell because he was leading the diversionary attack.
I don’t mind show Dagmer at all though. Theon needs someone he can talk to and pass orders through for expositionary purposes, and the actor plays an evil adviser well. He reminds me a bit of Eddie Haskell from “Leave it to Beaver.”
I think that Jon and Bran’s storylines are pretty clearly going to be overall the same. I’m not sure if Rickon is going to go with Bran north of the wall. Since nothing happens with Dany after GoT, they need to make things up. I’m sure she’ll get to the same place with a different middle. I don’t think any of the plot changes have mattered so far. Some of the character changes: Cat, Jaime, albeit he’s debatable, and Renly bother me more although still not much.
So far, I’m liking that they’re downsizing the cast by having the characters we already know preform the actions of people that have been written out of the show. It makes for such better TV, and it curbs the sideshow feeling I got when I read the later books.
The one character I miss is Patches. Not for any other reason than because I’d love to see how they would have made him look and the way he would have been played.
I’m also wondering how they’re gonna fit Arya’s pieces together. I guess Tywin can leave Hoat and Arya can serve up her weasel soup in that way. Because there’s gotta be weasel soup. I will be very disappointed if there is no weasel soup just as I’ll be disappointed if Arya doesn’t get to ask somebody where’s the gold in the village.
I can’t see how we won’t get Weasel soup. There’s no way we get “IS THERE GOLD IN THE VILLAGE” though. The torture was like 3 seconds of screen time and the Tickler is dead.
It was a very memorable three seconds and prompted pages of internet discussion even here in the no spoiler thread. If a half a second glimpse at walnut shells is enough for people to know the Stark boys had been around, then three minutes of rats eating through bellies should be enough.
And now that I’m thinking about it, it was much more than three seconds. There was the whole “if you look straight at them they won’t pick you” and the picking of Gendry and his last second reprieve.
The Starks get very little in terms of revenge. . . or much of anything good. They can’t take away my very, very angry little Weasel. I need to shed that tear.
I haven’t read the books but I’ve spoiled myself on the big events, so I know things that happen but not the small nuances.
Does Cersei have these same moments of weakness in the novels? Her convo with Sansa over her period just seemed so OOC to me. Everyone calls her a conniving bitch, but in the show she has these random moments of normal kindness and I’m really confused. It’s like she doesn’t give a shit about Joffrey getting guards to cut Sansa’s clothes off in the throne room, but all of a sudden she’s telling Sansa not to love Joffrey.
Also, Dany is really starting to annoy me. I keep on telling myself she’s supposed to be like 14/15 and it’s her youth and naivety, but in the show she seems like she’s 18.
I don’t think her actual chronological age matters very much, and who knows how to convert earth years to westeros years. Just think of the life she has led, and how little of it she has had to actually make decisions of her own.
I am about halfway through book 1, but it’s a hard slog. I’ll probably give up. This isn’t normally my favorite type of literature. I couldn’t get through Lord of the Rings for the same reason. But here’s my WAG.
Ygritte says her “king,” (or maybe she uses a different word) the leader of her free people, “used to be a crow” like Jon. Was it Jon’s uncle, a ranger who went missing in Season 1? I’m thinking the “missing” uncle is now leading the wildings.
Of course, now that I know that “winter is coming” and has been for over 5 books and it STILL HASN’T COME, I may never get an answer.
I haven’t read the book but I know some Orthodox Jewish people who keep telling me the Messiah is coming. Whenever I ask them “when” he is coming, they reply that it will be any minute now.
I think that it is a similar kind of believe about Winter coming. Except it’s probably better to believe that Winter is coming if it means that you prepare for bad weather and cold weather by stocking up on food and creating gardens and learning to do things for yourself In short, making yourself more self-reliant. How can that be a bad thing?
By the way, FYI, I don’t believe the messiah is coming any minute. If he ever does come, a lot of people will be put off at his atrocious bad manners for coming so late.
Bael the Bard, which is also a big hint that the bard Abel in ADWD is Mance. I didn’t catch that when reading and slapped my head when it was explained to me.
I see no reason why Osha can’t just turn right when they hit the wall and head off to Skagos with Rickon. It’s a bit of a spoiler for the books though, as I really thought they’d turn out to be at Greywater Watch.
Do you think the “Reek” story was deemed too outre for TV? I mean, even HBO has seriously down-played the Tickler story. And I don’t think anyone could argue that part was entertaining unless they had a personality disorder. It was masterfull writing, and creepily accurate, but not, in any way shape or form, entertaining.
I miss Paches too. Perhaps we’ll see him when the Stannis contingent hits Castle Black. I keep thinking he must have some part to play - that his rhymes will turn out to be accurate predictions, or maybe he’ll be the instrument of the “Drowned God” and help the Greyjoys somehow.
Well, when you compare her to Robb, who is about the same age and seems to be competent in every way except where his dick is concerned, she seems a lot more immature and whiny.
