The bodies weren’t burned, they were dipped in tar. It was common in Westeros to make the heads on pikes last longer. Or maybe to keep the flies off. Or something. Anyway, it’s a thing they do to heads before putting them up on display like that. This is the first I’ve heard of dipping/displaying a whole body. And what the heck happened to their arms? Did he cut one arm off of each boy?
Thanks for adding that info.
I recall when Joffhole forced the Sansa to look at Ned Stark’s head awa one or two others, there was no sign of tar. I would think that dipping them in tar would make them very hard to recognize.
That might have been a good tactic if Theon killed the orphan boys and wanted people to believe it was the Stark boys.
Why do you think Ned Stark’s head and Sensa’s nanny’s head was not dipped in tar whereas these bodies were dipped in tar?
BTW, I assume you have gotten your info from the books?
Yes, this is the open spoilers thread. Ned’s head wasn’t dipped in tar so the audience could recognize him, the boys were so the audience wouldn’t.
I don’t understand why you say this is the open spoilers thread.
Do you think I have done something wrong wrt spoilers in this thread?
As far as the reasons you have stated for Ned’s head not being dipped in tar while the boys heads were, it would have been very simple for Sansa to have cried out, “OMG! That is my father’s head!” and that would have made it clear in the minds of the audience that head was her father’s.
It was also quite simple to just show the head :P. And no you didn’t do anything wrong.
It means that we are allowed to post spoiler information (defined as any book information that isn’t in show yet) in this thread. Most other Game of Thrones threads are “closed spoiler” threads. So no spoiler information is allowed there.
My first thought when they came upon the farm was that they were going to hook up with Jojen and Meera. But I’m guessing they just merged those two characters into Osha. She has knowledge of the north and the old gods like Jojen, and is a provider like Meera. But in the books, doesn’t she go off with Rikon around this point?
I’m noticing in the no-spoiler thread that no one believes the bodies are Rikon and Bran. Mostly because of the TV trope of not seeing the death. I also will be having a conversation sometime today with some fans of the show who haven’t read the book. It’ll be interesting to see what they think about it. (Hmm, should I play like it’s them so it has a bigger effect on them when they show up next week:) )
“You know nothin’, Jon Snow” (!)
Ha Ha! That was very amusing. Good for you! I got a good laugh from that.
I really disliked the decision to have Jaime kill his distant relative. Not only was it out of character, it was completely unnecessary from the point of view of his escape plan. If anything having a second person helping him would have made escape easier. I am going to rationalize it as Jaime going half-mad in captivity and actually the dialogue just before does hint at it.
I do like the scenes which make Cersei and Tywin more sympathetic and both of them are more rounded characters than in the books. I find the Quarth plot changes intriguing and it probably signals that they are going to make big changes in Dany’s story line which is a good thing if it cuts or eliminates the tedium of the Mereen chapters in book 5.
Did Cersei actually say, ina back-handed way, that she doesn’t love Jamie? Because in the books she is desperate to have him back with her (at first).
Cersei never really loved Jamie, she loved power and her children. She was infatuated with Jamie because he represented everything she wanted, namely a version of herself with a dick.
I dunno, at one point she was really yearning to have him back. but then he disappointed her, and got relegated to the ranks of ordinary humans. Of course, she was sleeping around before then, but I suppose she had to having been married off. . . Hmmmnn.
I have not read the books.
But I seem to have this overwhelming feeling that John Snow and Ygritte (sp?) will develop a sexual relationship and maybe even much more than that.
Can anyone tell me if it is because the author is making me feel that way?
If so, he must be a good writer because all the evidence so far seems to indicate that he feels that he has more important things on his mind and he really doesn’t want to get involved with her in **any **way - let alone sexually.
I know this is the spoiler thread and personally, I don’t care about spoilers. You can say anything you like to me about the future of the stories and you won’t spoil anything for me. However, the moderator who started this thread has asked that people do not flagrantly spoil things for people - even though this is the spoiler thread.
But, I don’t mind if anyone reveals the future of this couple to me.
I’m believe you are correct. I think she is far too damaged to ever love any othre human being. But, be that as it may, if I could have her ear for a brief moment, I would just like to tell her to fuck right off and die. And then, I’d like to bite it off and watch her scream and suffer with the pain.
Yeup, Jon and Ygrette make the two backed beast covered in mammoth skin. It’s about as much falling in love as Martin allows.
I’m actually kinda bummed out they took hiding in the tombs out. That was damn clever.
Did they take out hiding in the tombs? I didn’t see anything that indicated they did but I do miss stuff.
The part I do see missing is the part where Halfhand commands Jon to spy on the wildlings to find out what they’re searching for. Unless this Ygrette cocktease happened in the book before Jon “turned” and I’m misremembering.
The children, Osha, and Hodor were all shown fleeing on foot and approaching the village that Theon eventually comes upon.
In the book Jon just lets her run away. I imagine that Jon will still kill Qhorin, although the situation will be slightly different.
I thought that in the book they left Winterfell and came back to it which is why Theon and his buddy find their hidden clothes, giving them the bright idea of killing the children and their mother.
And another thing! The guy whispering in Theon’s ear at Winterfell is Dagmar Cleftjaw? For one thing, where’s his cleft? And for another, isn’t the guy giving Theon all the bad advice supposed to be either a Frey bastard or an associate of the Frey bastard incognito?
Yeah, the show is beginning to veer widely enough from the books that I’m not sure we can spoil anything. Certainly nothing to with Danaerys, and maybe not with Jon, Bran or Rickon either.
