Game of Thrones Season 2 - OPEN SPOILERS Discussion Thread

Oona Chaplin looks much different in profile. I thought the show had pulled a switcharoo, and Robb wed a Frey (for a moment at least). Seriously, she looks much prettier from straight on.

Well, you knew, reading the book, that Frey was going to be pissed. Being angry and acting like a dick is miles away from setting up an elaborate backstab with the main enemy and one of Robb’s top supporters, killing him and his mother at a “reconciliation” wedding, and then sewing Robb’s wolf’s head onto his body.

One thing I think will be really hard to get across is Catelyn’s insanity at the end. The whole section where she lists the children she thinks are dead, “please make it stop, make it stop hurting,” and “not my hair, Ned loved my hair” is some of the saddest writing I’ve ever read. I’m tearing up now.

It’s been probably a year since I read SOS but I don’t recall thinking that The Queen of Thorns was at all subtle about her clout. I mean, she was sly and tricky but she was notorious for getting her way and being a hardass - hence the moniker.

Oh man Ellis Dee almost deserves to be spoiled for her (his?) smug little “I don’t see what you nerds are going on about, not that many main characters die in this series,” posts. I’m not going to spoil it, and I don’t think any one else should either, but I totally want to yell “One third of the people on your list die!”

Somebody remember that post and whip it out next April.

Agreed - total “I told you so moments” abound… for a few seasons actually.

Well, more like next May. It’s quite possible that we don’t even get any major deaths next season, although I do think Robb and Catelyn are likely. I think we’ll see Joffrey, Shae, Ygritte, Tywin, Oberyn, Gregor, the Hound, Lysa, and others in season 4. Hmm, I bet they could kill a fairly large character in every episode.

Based on Season 1 (kill Ned in Ep 9 and then when everyone is despairing give Dany dragons in Ep 10 to keep 'em interested), I suspect the Red Wedding will be in Ep 9 and then Joffrey’s death will be the last scene in Ep 10 - cliffhangering into Season 4.

Probably. They’d want to ease the pain a bit. It’d be incredibly ballsy for the last significant act of the season being one of the characters having her throat slit.

Do you guys think we’ll see Theon in seasons 3 and 4? I hope not. I want the Reek reveal to be shocking.

The cliffhanger season ending scene has to be Caitlyn pointing her accusing dead finger. . …

You just can’t do that on a TV show. Alfie Allen is one of the main characters at this point, there is no way you can tell him to sit out for two seasons. He has to be there for the same reason we had to have so much Robb and Jamie this season, they are actors you are dealing with now not book characters. We will probably end up getting a different Beric Dondarrion because of this, which will lead to much confusion.

I don’t think we’ll get Joffreys death next season. Robb, Cat and Ygritte will be the big ones, with Joffrey and Tywin saved for S4. The cliffhanger reveal will probably be undead Cat i agree, although it might feel a bit rushed to bring her back the very next episode after she dies.

The anti-magic crowd (you know, the ones who say they like Game of Thrones because while it’s a “fantasy” its not THAT kind of fantasy) would have a complete meltdown if the season ended with Lady Stoneheart.

First season ended with dragons, second with zombies. I think at this point they would expect it.

And besides, by the time we encounter Lady Stoneheart it should already be established that Thoros of Myr can raise the dead.

Sansa specifically describes her as a tiny sweet-looking old woman. Maggie Smith is neither of those things.

Ian McElhinney says hi.
(yes, it’s only one season, and not confirmed that he’ll be back, but still…)

Yes, I had the same impulse reading her (his?) post.

You could also mention Alliser Thorne, but so far neither him nor Selmy have played an important part. Theon can’t be dropped or replaced.

I think that’s what the writers had in mind when they mentioned including one of the most memorable scenes from the books. I assume it’s the “red noces”.

Although I also expect to see Joffrey’s death next season. Actually, the two fateful marriages would make a great parallel.

The “survival guide to the seven kingdoms” :

  1. Do not get married or agree to attend a marriage. If you’re not murdered yourself, you’ll become a murder suspect.

2)Do not become king or lay a claim on any throne (3 survivors out of 10, I believe)

  1. Most importantly, never, ever, under no circumstances, accept to become hand of the king (80% casualty rate, the only survivor ending up a disfigured fugitive).

I think so. They left everyone puzzled about his fate at the end of this season. Him only showing up again in 2015 would be just weird. Watchers would wonder what the heck happened to him.

How would they wonder? “Last time we saw Theon, Ramsay Bolton was just outside. Now he’s in Ramsay Bolton’s dungeon. I’m so confused?!”
