Game of Thrones Season 2 - OPEN SPOILERS Discussion Thread

Yeah, exactly. With Tyrion I can understand it more, cause in the book at least he is portrayed as a bit of a misogynist, so I can believe him not seeing things from the prostitute’s POV. But “I will risk my husband’s wrath to make sure no more women get raped” Danerys? It seemed a bit OOC. Unless they are changing her to be a bit more of the crazy-Targaryean type in the book.

Again though . . . we are never shown how much duress she was put under to betray Dany. What was she supposed to do, let herself be killed rather than spirit away dragons? I can understand those standards of loyalty in most of Westeros/Essos, but I think Dany is portrayed as being more “modern” so to speak, when it comes to justice. For instance, even though she took those kids hostage in Mereen, she refused to actually harm any of them because they were just children (sort of negating the point of hostages, honestly, but it still shows that she has different standards for “guilt” and “innocence” than most of the people at the time)

Also, on another message board a poster mentioned that it was clear than Talissa/Jeyne is a Lannister spy, because the letter Tywin was reading (the one that Arya tried to run off with till Amory Loach (?) saw her) was sent by her. Is that made clear in the show? Did I miss something?

That was not made clear at all. And it would completely change the story so i doubt it.

Well, I don’t know that it would completely change it. In the books, it’s subtly hinted that the marriage of Jeyne and Robb may have been influenced to some degree by the Lannisters. For the show , they may choose to make that much more explicit.

But I agree that the letter he reads is not necessarily the one she wrote. If it is, they will tell us outright at some point.

No kidding. I’m actually really irritated reading his posts. He’s literally telling people with a ton more knowledge than him that they are wrong, and worse, he’s doing it in a place where it’s against the rules to respond! At most, you could say “trust me, there’s a reason” but A) he’s already ignored that response and B) that will probably draw complaints anyway.

I need to just stay out of the episode threads. There’s no benefit to me as a reader, and I’m not allowed to have any input as a poster.

I think the only thing we saw her write was a pharmacy list for Robb. But she ended up going with him to get the supplies, so maybe she was writing a letter. Wouldn’t that mean she needed a raven who could find Tywin? Where was Littlefinger? Was he still in Robb’s camp?

Really? I don’t see that the marriage was influenced by the Lannisters. Tywin did say he had people put the bug in Frey’s ear about taking Robb out because of the marriage but not so much in the marriage itself.

I thought the marriage was genuine, the betrayal came from Jeynes mom who realized how fucking stupid her daughter was and didn’t want Tywin to go all rains of castamere on them. They really did not have any other choice to be honest.

OK - never read the books and have been eagerly watching all the episodes and finally watched the last episode of the season last night.

Zombies? Really?! Crap - I HATE zombie shit. Next to vampires, zombie stories are the dumbest storyline on earth. I have never understood the fascination with slow moving people with bad make-up pretending to be scary. Geez, I could escape them with a brisk walk or riding a Hover Round.

And did I mention I think zombie story-lines are stupid and boring?!

Please tell me zombies are NOT a huge part of the rest of this series! If they remain a big part of the story, I can stop watching now.

The story only has five out of seven books written so far. After the fist of the first men stuff you saw at the end of last season they are not really a huge part of the other books. The white walkers are still the main bad guys of the series and they do control armies of zombies, which where actually on the show since the first scene of season one so i don’t understand the shock.

They’re not, except as a background threat.

But even if they were a big part of the story, aren’t these zombies different because they’re being used as weapons? Would that make the show more palatable?

Don’t worry the zombies are actually barely in the rest of the books, although their existence is sort of a looming threat. I generally hate zombie movies too, but in A Song of Ice and Fire, the zombies (called “wights”) aren’t slow moving, nor are they mindless. They’re controlled by the White Walkers, and they seem to retain some of their memories from their life. For example, in season one, the zombie that rose inside Castle Black went straight for the commander of the Night’s Watch, instead of just randomly attacking people.

Although I must wonder why you were surprised. There are zombies in the first season too.

I must have slept through that part or something, as I don’t recall seeing any in the first season.

However, thank you all for letting me know this will not turn into a zombie series. As a fantasy/sci-fi, I can live with the dragons and myths and cool landscapes and occasional magic, but zombies just throw a whole new (stupid) element into the mix that I think would ruin the story.

The first one you see is the little girl in the opening segment of the very first episode.

I do remember when Jon killed the wright-- a very intense scene with chopping of limbs and burning of flesh-- the main topic of conversation here on the Dope was the size of Hodor’s dick.

While they are reanimated dead, I never thought of the wights as “zombies”. They are so different from what popular culture makes zombies out to be. Wights and zombies are both types of undead creatures, but not the same thing.

They’re elemental zombies in my book. I like that take, as there’s a clearly magic explanation at play. It’s refreshing. Like a York Peppermint Patty. There’s a tie in!

“When I bite into a York Peppermint Patty, I feel like [cut to GoT winterscape battle] I’m slaying Wights with my dragon glass dagger on the First of the First Men!”

Little Nemo just brought to my attention the perfect choice for Queen of Thorns: CarlaLaemmle

Can someone get Skald on the line? I need to borrow his time machine and requisition a case of Viagra.

Does anyone have theories on why they chose to keep Bran and Rickons “deaths” a secret on the show? because that seems like one of those inexplicable changes that don’t add anything and make things worse. It just makes Catelyn look stupider and bitchier and Robb look like a bigger douche, for no reason.
