Yeabut, that’s not the name said at the ceremony. You’d think she’d give up the charade once they were married. Where is the show going with this?
The whole wedding was a big mess. They got married under the seven, gods neither Robb nor someone from volantis follow.
I didn’t like that too, at first, but then I thought about it. They are south of the Neck. There aren’t going to be any godswoods here. The only nearby priests of R’hllor are Mel and Thoros, neither of which is handy. So they grabbed the nearest Septon, because he was all they could find. Make sense, though I wish there were time for a line or two to that effect.
Honorable Robb was in such a rush to make his sweety an honest woman! He would have used a Vegas Style Elvis Chapel if that had been the only choice.
Anyway, he was the product of a mixed marriage…
I don’t remember much about Cersei from the books, but from what I do remember, I think Show Cersei is much smarter than Book Cersei. I like that change but I don’t like making her sympathetic.
I agree, they have made Shae so sympathetic that it makes me wonder if they’re going to change what happens to her.
TV-Shae hasn’t been calling Tyrion “my giant of Lannister”, has she? I always thought that book-Shae could have been forced into giving false testimony against Tyrion, except that she chose to reveal that endearment, which was the ultimate betrayal to Tyrion.
I think she’s exclusively been using “My Lion”
I think it would be easy to portray Shae as someone who, for (take your pick) survival or intel or cunningness or because she was forced to, went with Tywin. But Shae’s still loyal to Tyrion. Doesn’t matter though. Tyrion just broke out of jail for a murder he didn’t commit and killed his father. He’s pretty fucked in the head at this point (and book 5 certainly provides ample proof of that).
At this point he meets Shae and, before Shae has time to even say “oh Thank the Gods! Let’s get the hell out of here!” he chokes her to death.
Shrug, the betrayal is just going to be all the more shocking when unexpected. Book Shae was extremely one dimensional, she had a few witty lines but that was it.
And that’s probably how it will happen, except that we’ll be sad for TV Shae. I wasn’t sad about Book Shae.
I don’t remember the circumstances of Tywin and Shae getting together. I also don’t remember reading about Tywin and other women, before Shae. He was a widower and supposedly loved his wife dearly. So did Shae seek him out? Did Cersei set it up? Would Tywin have slept with a woman he knew Tyrion had slept with? Seems petty, and unlikely. Tywin had his vengeance on Tyrion. He didn’t need to do more.
There are hints that Tywin was the one who had the tunnel that Tyrion used to sneak into the whorehouse. Tyrion sneaks into Tywin’s room to confront him about Tysha and finds Shae in his bed, i doubt revenge pettiness or vengeance came into it, Tywin just liked whores on the DL.
I assume that it would be difficult to find someone who would perform a ceremony in accordance with the old gods. The old god religion doesn’t seem to have much structure and it’s dying out anyway (it seems to remain only in the North).
Speaking of Tywin, now there’s a character that has been made far more likable on TV than in the book. Honestly he seemed a bit two dimensional in the book, but I loved loved loved his scenes with Arya this season.
Seriously. I like the guy too. I’ll keep liking him until he reveals that he hates Tyrion because Tyrion’s mother died giving birth to him. If the show wanted to skip that nasty little speech, it’d be fine with me.
Did he actually say that in the books? it was always implied but i don’t remember him saying it.
Yeah, he said it after Blackwater, in response to Tyrion asking Tywin for Casterly Rock.
That’s really cute :).
Is anyone else disappointed that Dany locked Doreah in the vault along with XXD? AFAICT, it wasn’t made clear in the show if she was colluding with him all along, and deliberately convincing Dany of how amazing Quarth was and how she should try to stay there, or if she was taken when XXD and Pyat Pree raided the place and made to sleep with XXD. I love Dany’s feminist, reformer streak, and so I think she of all people would consider how much true choice Doreah would have in become XXD’s bedmaiden. I think it would be more appropriate to dismiss her, like she did Ser Jorah.
Gestalt, I wasn’t disappointed until you mentioned it. Same with Tyrion and what happened with Shae. What are these women supposed to do? They have no power.
Shae went the extra mile in making mockery of Tyrion, she might not have had a choice in testifying against him but she made it extra personal. And Doreah was the one who carried the dragons away wasn’t she? they even made it a point to show that the dragons liked her in one of the earlier episodes.
