Game of Thrones Season 6 Anticipation Thread (Show discussion)

I’m pretty sure it was Jon Snow that Negan killed. It had to be him.

And Edmure. He hasn’t been seen onscreen since the Red Wedding. Last we heard he was in Walder Frey’s dungeon.

I just thought of something…Tommen’s survival (good luck with that)…is the only thing right now holding the facade of a kingdom together. When…if…he dies, even under the most peaceful conditions they’d be forced to have a Kings Moot wouldn’t they?

Under THESE conditions…shittt…the Seven Kingdoms may as well split up and go their own way.

That’s a good point - who would be the heir now? Robert’s uncle, if he has any?

Sir Pounce?

Don’t know of any other Baratheons who might have a claim. (Gendry would, if he were made legitimate). And even if they did, there’s a big difference between having a claim and having the political/military juice to actually take the Iron Throne.

Here’s the NYT on the show moving past, and diverging from, the books: ‘Game of Thrones’ Has Moved Past Its Blueprint, and That’s a Good Thing - The New York Times

I think there must be lead in the Westeros water…not even counting the threat of the Walkers…Cerseis paramount concern HAS to be continuing the line. Every citizen of Westeros should shit their pants every time Tommen coughs. Cause the alternative is chaos unimaginable in forever. There is no “oh…so and so would just take over” or “The Lannisters and Tyrell’s will fight it out and that will be that”

Everyone is too evenly matched and beat up over the last war. Not to mention, that match for Tommen is great! That’s a fine alliance.

Remember the thread rules. From the OP, “This will follow the same rules as the weekly threads - show only, no book discussion whatsoever.”

My apologies.

It’s like if come Jan 20, the new President does his oath in Cleveland (in a non-emergency due to assassination or war or other situations). Perfectly legal and legitimate, but :dubious: lacks a certain authority.

After the deaths of Shireen and Stannis, the Baratheon line as well and truly run out. If you are inclined to believe that Tommen is illegitimate (as he definitely is), the closest person to Robert Baratheon still living would be his sister-in-law Selyse (Stannis’ wife). Or, you know… barring that, Robert was a distant cousin to Daenerys Targaryen (his grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen, who was the sister of Jaehaerys II, who is the grandfather of Daenerys) ;).

So at this point, its really all about who is powerful enough to take the Throne.

I think that Shireen would be the next in line, as the only surviving Baratheon (assuming that Stannis is indeed dead). But I think the chances of her ever laying eyes on the Iron Throne are pretty slim.

John Snow is dead, dead, dead. He has to be so that he can be resurrected. Then, having fulfilled his oath (“Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death.”), he will be free to lead the entire Wilding army south to retake Winterfell.

Selyse hung herself after Stannis burned Shireen at the stake, so neither of them qualify as surviving Baratheons.

I sincerely doubt that the Wildlings would agree to fight for Jon Snow for the sake of Westorosi politics, and he wasn’t expecting them to. I do think they’ll take up arms when the White Walkers start coming from beyond The Wall, which is what Jon asked of them.

I think many people blocked the memory of that part. One of most despicable actions of any tv character ever. I really liked Stannis until he did that. I hope Melisandre gets Ramsay’d this season.

It was actually a noble and selfless act by Stannis. It was a horrific sacrifice to see his own daughter burn, but he thought he was saving the world by doing so. He thought that was the price he had to pay. Would you burn your own child to literally save the entire world? To save millions of people from the horrific fate of becoming undead? If you say no, you’re just reacting emotionally. If you think about it and still say no, you’re an insanely murderous sociopath, saying that the fate of the entire world is worth less than your daughter.

I’m baffled by all the people who think that that act was out of character for him, or some sort of turn for the character. Duty was his driving force the entire time. He didn’t even want to be king - he was the king - and it was his duty to rule. Throw in the fire god prophecies, and believing that he was the only one who could face the white walker threat, and now it’s his duty to save the entire world, whatever it takes. Stannis is a tragic character, not an evil one. His quest for the throne was a burden, not greed.

Oops…I forgot that Shireen was dead.

Full disclosure: I haven’t actually watched Season 5 yet (we don’t subscribe to HBO, and the discs haven’t gotten to the top of my Netflix queue), so all the knowledge I have comes either from reading old discussion threads or synopses online, or from…other sources.
You may be right about the Wildlings’ views of Westerosi politics, but it’s possible that they might help Jon out in return for being allowed to settle a bit farther south of the Wall. They’ve actually seen the White Walkers, and being as far away from them as possible might be a factor in their decision.

I think it was in character, but too quick of a turn. He needed to be more desperate than was shown. If it was a season long arc of Melisandre pushing for it and Stannis finally relenting when all hope was lost I would have liked it a hell of a lot more.

There might be some distant Baratheon where a king could come from. We don’t know if Stannis has any cousins or uncles.

Snow might just show up in dreams or flashbacks. Being on set doesn’t really prove he’s alive.

The actor could be in the show even if the character’s dead. One of the more realistic and believable examples from Youtube.

Are coins the only form of payment in the GOT world? I wonder how everyone who is in transit pays for things. One would need a significant amount of coins. I’m guessing the Iron Bank of Braavos doesn’t have branches everywhere.
