Yeah, I think so too. However, Catelyn was mentioned a lot this episode so when they showed the Brotherhood I was intrigued.
I liked Jaime this episode. Will he turn on Cersei at some point and fight for honor? Brienne and Edmure seemed to reset that in his mind a bit. Maybe Cersei burns down King’s Landing and he turns on her?
Cleganebowl seems much less likely not. What do we think about that?
And Cersei turning against Tommen might be what finally puts Jaime on the path of hating Cersei, given what he said this episode about how much she loves her children.
Kinda a buzzkill episode, though. I’ve been one of those really looking forward to Cleganebowl… and killing off the Blackfish? Off screen? Sheesh. Dany’s arrival felt anti-climatic, too. Should’ve really been merged with a scene of her horde coming to aid the city, or a dragon burning someone, or something beyond her just standing there mutely.
I tried to do a more extensive breakdown of the ridiculousness of the resolution of that plot.
Anyway, it’s just downright weird that we didn’t get Lady Stoneheart now. I supported the show for cutting out that plotline because it would’ve been kind of jarring, especially taking this long. But we basically recreated the entire circumstances and scene for Stoneheart and just… didn’t have any Stoneheart. Seemed very strange.
How did Jaime resolve Riverrun in the books? I remember the way he did it suggested that his character had grown, and that he solved it with wisdom and compassion. What we got was “I’ll kill everyone in the world but Cersei and I” which takes his character back to square one.
The fact that Sandor’s back means it is definitely happening one way or another, even if it isn’t exactly how we predicted. The decree of no more trial by combat was surprising, but it could be revoked (manipulation from Margaery would do the trick). And even if it stands, those brothers are still going to fight to the death when they finally meet. There’s no way that doesn’t happen.
He did it pretty much the same way, except he didn’t talk about how much he loved his sister. He did try to resolve it with compassion first and only resorted to threats when Edumure asked what would happen if he didn’t yield the castle.
Now that the show has moved past the books, the pacing of the plot has really picked up. It’s actually starting to feel a little rushed, something no one ever said about the books. I feel like they’re trying to get to a certain point and wrapped up a couple of plot points quickly to set the stage for next season.
I guess they’re not bringing in LSH, because last night would have been the time to do it. Despite all the name-checking that Kat and the Red Wedding got, there were really no hints that the Brothers were being led by anyone else; and with Dondarrion still in charge she’d be kind of superfluous.
Also - I’m unimpressed with how they wrapped up Arya’s stabbing. No way she recovers from that wound so easily - and they never did explain where she got all that money.
When the Hound was pissing into the water and the camera was focused on the ripples flowing out, I was thinking her corpse would come floating up. Because Beric is still around, she wouldn’t have come back to life yet going by the book. But that would mean she’s been decomposing for a very long time. So either she’s come back w/o Beric’s life sacrifice and they’re just holding her off scene for the dramatic reveal, or we’re not getting her. And I agree with the previous poster that the time for the reveal was when the Hound walked up on the hanging. Maybe he demands to take Lem’s life himself and Thoros says he must ask the Lady, and Sandor turns around to see her.
I agree 100% with everything in that post. I super disappointed in how that played out. None of it makes any sense, nor does it establish Arya as a badass. It establishes her as an absurdly lucky idiot.
So now I’m wondering if we’re going to get LSH, but not Catelyn. Like maybe Blackfish? Since he died offscreen, he might get shoved out the river exit, found by the brotherhood, and revived. The brotherhood doesn’t seem to exist for any reason other than LSH, so it seems like they have to go that route someday, and it’s way too latefor Catelyn. I can’t think of another character who could step into that role besides Blackfish at the moment, but there’s probably someone.
I see a lot of anti-Edmure comments around the internet. He’s a wuss and all that, but didn’t he make the intelligent move? Yeah, Blackfish was going to fight it out, and maybe keep the Lannisters and Freys tied up for 2 years, but at the end of it, Jaime was basically threatening to go all Rains of Castamere on the Tullys. In the end, keeping your house alive is probably a much smarter move than going all out in a blaze of glory.
I breakdown why your objections are based on a misunderstanding here.
As for LSH, I assume that, if she’s gonna exist, we’ll get the scene where Berric vomits the LoL’s fire into her. Although, since she’s been dead for two years or so, that’s probably gonna make her more zombie like than in the books.
I really hope so, all I want in the world is LSH leading the brotherhood, with the fucking Hound as her right hand man.
Well, the fact is, I think, despite being a seemingly major development as the comeback of a somewhat main character, we don’t really know what the impact of LSH really is, storywise. What’s the point of her? If it’s just to draw a parallel with Cersei and cover ground of justice vs. revenge, there may not be a point to have that character in the show in any form. Jaime’s speech comparing Catelyn and Cersei made some good points in that regard, and could theoretically have covered that ground pretty much to the extent that it needs to be. The BWB could be serving now as the vehicle to get the Hound somewhere, or, very likely having to do with Brienne and Pod stumbling on them while boating down the river. I like how the Blackfish pointed out Brienne having Jaime’s sword…which makes me think that will somehow factor into a future encounter; pointing out that it’s an easily observed link to Lannister association, which could be misconstrued.
Also really disappointed with the Arya resolution. Conveniently-healed wounds open up again during ridiculous chase (in which Arya would’ve probably broken both legs or ankles, or dislocated her knees), fine. Appears to barely stumble back to her “lair” – and then she’s fine again, feeling well enough to perform some facial deconstructive surgery, make it back to the HoBaW, and be sassy to the Faceless Man without a hint of discomfort. Plus all the other things mentioned with the wrongness that led up to that whole thing. My wife, who doesn’t even follow this stuff closely, hasn’t read the books, doesn’t theorize about this and that, said “Well I’m sure glad all that nonsense is over with, at least.”
