Sansa mentions sending a raven to the Manderlies when she tries to recruit Lord Glover, and I think there were at least 2 other offhand mentions. It’s small, but it’s potentially set up. We’ve been talking about them by name without ever seeing them.
I mean I don’t think we’ve seen any casting notices or unaccounted actors, but I could be mistaken. I’m generally okay with combining characters, considering that ASOIAF has ten thousand, but it had better be a character who makes sense and does it well.
BTW was the Rat Cook mentioned in show? Maybe when Bran et al. meet Sam and Gilly?
Yes, and that’s when.
So, Jon demonstrated first, Grade A stupidity (WHAT DID SANSA TELL YOU?!), and then Lord of Light style magic (+1000 avoidance of arrows), and then a last second save (so… Ramsey, have we heard of sentries?)
Meereen’s battle was cooler and more intelligent (yeah, dragons!)
Really fun action war sequences in both though.
Who was the beardy guy who got Tysoned by Tormund? Umber?
Yeah, I think it was Smalljon Umber.
For every cool moment in the battle there was a “really?” moment. Littlefinger riding to the rescue was silly in how predictable it was. At least Ramsay’s finally gone.
That battle was so beautifully filmed. The long, single take scene of Jon fighting, with horses flying by, was incredible. I actually found myself taken out of the scene, just marveling at how on earth it was done.
Agreed… amazing sequence… kinda reminds of some recent Normandy invasion movies/the long Gravity sequence… awesome stuff
Maybe Manderly shows up next episode? Though it’s hard to see how a Northern conspiracy to oust Bolton is set up now that the Boltons are gone!
But the Manderly’s main beef was with the Freys over the red wedding, and we are getting the Freys next episode.
That’s true. Hopefully this will be how it works out, though it’s hard to see how all of that would fit into one episode, especially with other storylines to wrap up.
Though with the Bolton removed, it’d be strange to see the Manderlys sitting, eating with the Freys.
With Dany having a massive fleet now with the Masters’ former fleet and the Iron Islands ‘best ships’, two huge armies with the Unsullied and Dothraki, and 3 massive dragons, the question becomes how is she possibly going to lose when she steps on the shores of Westeros? Even the White Walkers seemingly have no chance with 3 dragons who can just hover above them and reign fire upon them.
So there needs to be some twist involved right? Maybe the White Walkers can shoot ice? Or Dany needs to take that evil turn that she seemed to be taking until Tyrion talked her out of it (maybe Tyrion dies in a battle to come, so there is no one to prevent Dany from going mad?). Or the show goes to the books and Euron actually DOES have a dragon horn (though the show hasn’t been a fan of magic horns so far)
But it seems like Dany is a steamroller at the moment. I wonder how that is going to be countered (and it needs to be or else the rest of the show will be anti-climatic).
I’m hoping Dany turns into the bad guy.
But… we had basically a repeat of a scene we’ve had 3 times now. The masters did something to sabotage her, and she wanted to kill them. Then Barristan talks her out of it, so she doesn’t become the Mad King. Then the masters retake Yunkai and Astapor, and Dany wants to kill them all, and Jorah says she should be merciful. Then the masters make a pact with Mereen and make a sneak attack, and she wants to kill all the masters, but Tyrion talks her into mercy again.
Kill the fucking masters at this point. You’ve tried to be the good guy and they’ve only taken advantage of it. She’s not a butcher if she finally kills them after three attempts at mercy.
Tyrion wasn’t talking her into having mercy for the masters, he was talking her into not burning cities with tens of thousands of innocent people to the ground.
Ok, so when Dany was riding Drogon and dragon fire attacking the ships it made me wonder a thing.
It seemed like Dany was directing the dragons on which ships to attack. Was there anything in the show, that I may have missed, or in the books, which I have not read but don’t care about spoilers, where-in it says/shows that she has some kind of psychic connection with them? I know they are imprinted on her and her smell and she is their “mother” but is there anything more going on?
Please feel free to spoiler away. Wheeeeee!
Yeah, but there was also the whole setup that made it look like LSH was coming, and look how that turned out.
And although I still firmly believe that the brothers Clegane will eventually fight each other to the death, it doesn’t look like Cleganebowl is going to happen quite the way that it was foreshadowed either. Damnit, Tommen.
Not exactly. Jaime offered him lands. So, “under watch” as a minor lord rather than in captivity.
Besides, there’s nothing obviously wrong about wanting to live to a ripe age.
I have a hard time with Tyrion’s motives to help Daenerys invade his home with dragons and 50,000 pillaging Dothraki. She hasn’t shown any ability to rule a city, never mind a continent; she loves burning her enemies, and the only way she can become queen of Westeros is through another terribly bloody war. Worse, she can’t establish a new dynasty. Once she’s dead, the power vacuum might easily lead to another civil war.
Why does he believe Daenerys is the answer?
Also, the father who betrayed him, he killed. And though he might hate Cersei enough to wish her dead, he practically condemns the brother he loves with his actions. He has no reason to hate Tommen. And he should be aware by now that the Kingdoms have come to something resembling rest and stability. And right before winter, the kingdoms are to be pushed into another devastating war?
Is there any good motive for his allegiance with Daenerys?
In the other thread, some folks are speculating about where Varys sailed off to. In the books, we last saw him, I think, planting a crossbow bolt into Kevan’s chest. Does anyone else think he might be headed to King’s Landing to stir things up?
