I don’t think it’s a spoiler to suggest that a more scholarly-minded character may at one point cast doubt on the accuracy of these numbers . . .

Even after she sees him take a beat down and then cower on the ground crying?
I feel bad for the wolf but I’m glad she took a hit for that BS.
Okay, I’ll let that slide for now. I’m still in.
Which brings up and interesting point. I think they are doing as good a job as they can of playing with the unreliable narrator/perspective that the books bring, but I don’t think it’s always quite coming across.
For example my wife really thought that Cat’s hatred of Jon came out of nowhere and didn’t make sense based on the character as we had seen her so far. I had to explain about how characters in the book are show in different lights depending on who’s perspective is being shown and that Cat isn’t all sweetness and self sacrifice, that’s just one perspective. From Jon’s point of view Cat is a bitch, but the scene in Bran’s room was the first time we saw that side of her on the TV show.
On another subject, for people who have read Game of Thrones more recently than I have, I don’t remember Dany and Drogo having such a…tearful relationship in the books. Am I remembering it wrong? I seem to remember Drogo as actually trying to be a sort of good guy at first, but I don’t trust my memory as it has been a long while since I read GoT and I usually rushed through Dany’s chapters in a hurry.
I enjoyed this episode as much if not more than last week. I have a better feel for who is who (the “Previously on” was pretty much perfect for this purpose as well) and could allow the story to take me along more as all the pieces start to move into place and character arcs start to form.
I did a literal fist pump and said “Yes!” with both scenes with the wolves (I am assuming in episode spoilers are okay here right, I never read the books) and was very saddened by what happened to Lady…and then afterwards felt guilty for feeling sad about it considering what happened to the poor Butcher’s son.
I am also fascinated by what I expect to happen with Drago and his Wife (Dany I think is her name). It appears she won’t be a victim for very long and will learn to may gain some power in this relationship rather than just be a tool to be used by her Brother and Husband.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Sansa blames the incident on Arya. If Arya hadn’t been behaving in such an unladylike manner, then none of it would have happened.
Dany and Drogo’s wedding night was very tender, but for the next few weeks there is no romance. Dany is horribly sore because she isn’t used to riding a horse all day. She doesn’t see Drogo except when he drops in briefly each night for perfunctory sex.
Oh, there are good and evil characters all right. But the key is that - from your own viewpoint - you’re never an evil character. Spend enough time looking at the world through one person’s view, reading one person’s thoughts, and you’ll come to see them as the hero of the story no matter how loathsome they appear to everyone else.
It’s not a bug but a feature of this HBO adaptation that you can’t get into minds of the people. But also remember that at this point in the books even the readers thought Jamie Lannister = completely and totally evil because, again, we didn’t get his point of view. It’s early. There will be time for nuance later.
I cried at Lady’s execution scene, but in hindsight I felt like they didn’t really show that much of a bond between her and Sansa. Although the actress did an excellent job at showing her devastation at Lady’s death.
Joff is starting to grow on me (the actor, not the character). I thought he was awfully cast initially but he did pretty good this episode.
She may aspire to being Queen Gaga, but right now she’s just Lady Gaga.
Heh, and I predict she’ll be in for a Bad Romance.
Yep, that’s Sansa’s character. She’s so enamored of Romantic Fantasy that she deliberately ignores evidence right in front of her eyes that her fantasy isn’t real. Despite her age, she’s still very much a child.
Why does the queen hate that one guy who wants to be a knight?
And is there a list of all the characters somewhere, with pictures?
I’ve decided that if I can’t get a better handle on WTF is going on by episode 3, I’m giving up. Television shouldn’t require too much effort.
ETA: Also, the little blonde prince is a loathsome dickhead. But the little white-haired pretender guy is a lovable dickhead.
He is her husband’s bastard son born.
I have never hated any fictional character as much as I hated Joffery (the little blonde prince), mostly because of the events in this last episode.
Also, to anyone who is having trouble following the action, might I suggest reading the recaps on television without pity. I am not normally a TWOP reader, but I really liked the first episode recap. It was fun and written by someone who has read the books but is dedicated to only talking about what happened in the episode. He spends a good bit of time clearing things up and poking fun at things that are unnecessarily obscure.

She’s not the queen, she’s the lady of Winterfell. The queen is the blonde brother fucking one. She hates Jon because he’s the bastard son of her husband. And he doesn’t want to be a knight, he wants to be a member of the night watch, the ancient order of soldiers who man the giant ice wall that separates the seven kingdoms from the bad stuff to the north.
Someone posted a really neat one a page or two back.
They are both quite douchy.
Snarky Kong posted it in the original thread - here it is:

Nifty.
If only he had some other hobby, like, I don’t know, ballet or something.
Pretty good episode, all in all. Tyrion rocks. Arya is great. Robert and Eddard talking over lunch in the field was a great scene. I wonder if Khal Drogo would mind if he ever actually found out that his young wife was in a quasi-lesbian relationship with a slave girl? Not much, I guess, if those little tutorials resulted in a better sex life for him.
Sansa still seems miscast to me. Not pretty enough; not airheaded enough.
I thought they said she was 13. That’s a child in my book.
Here’s probably a stupid question: What are the Seven Kingdoms? How many have we been exposed to so far? If I had to guess at that last question, I’d say 1. There is only 1 king, right?
Next question: Are any of these other Kingdoms going to come into play? If not, why are they talking about them so much?
Feel free to spoil as needed.
Oh come on, they were fully clothed and didn’t even kiss. Besides, with the results he got i doubt he’d mind terribly.
What we know about her at this point:
Objectively judging from that list, she deserves pity. At this point in the books though I don’t recall being all that sympathetic for her, moreso for the wolf, but having to watch her heartbreak and devastation acted out upped the sadness from what I experienced with the book. I’m sure it won’t be the first time. Winter is coming.
Bitch Cersei killed her fucking dog. I liked Robert’s reaction, taking a beat and looking at her like ‘God Damn She Ruthless.’
Probably not much. She’s a slave AND a woman, so doesn’t count on multiple levels.
Besides, that was EDUCATION. How anyone could possibly read anything titilating into that is **completly **beyond me. Really. I mean it. Really.
Actually thinking of character compression, Sexy Slavegirl being given all of Irri’s (non-sexy slavegirl #1, I think) stuff would be as close to painless as you could get, really.
The book versions of Joffery (blond douche) and Visaries (white-haired douche) were basically identical. I like how the show versions are both douchey in their own unique ways.

Dany is the one cannonally bi woman in the whole series. And even she came off as a LUG. I’m just sayin’ Wait. There might be one other, or not. (It’s complicated)
