Gamecube currently number one selling console in the U.S.!

I’m so glad to see this is happening. I’m telling you people, I love the PS2 and the Xbox is great(for its very few good games), but the Cube is the best system.

It has a phenomenal game selection and amazing power.

I know PS2 will always remain the most popular console, but it is nice to see the Cube doing well now. Zelda and Metroid Prime are helping big time.

 That article seems to contradict itself. It says, “While sales of the Gamecube may have spiked thanks to the release of ZELDA, overall Nintendo’s next gen game unit still maintains its third place overall in total sales.”

It doesn’ say that. It says that Zelda has been the best selling game since its release a couple weeks ago.

It also says:

I missed the first paragraph…it is completely contradictory.

I guess they could be saying that in the past 2 weeks they have sold more consoles than Microsoft and Sony.

What a weird article. I’m still gonna get Zelda, though.

From what i have heard it does not matter any ways because the nintendo corporation will no longer be making the game cube and only making software and focusing on the portable game systems that they are the best at (i.e. Gameboy Advanced SP). Nintendo has ceased the productiuon of the game systems all together and will only sell the rst of the game cubes that they have already produced and then that will be the last of them.

cite?

Erm, no onyx, that is very, very wrong. Nintendo has stated dozens of times that they will not, have not, and do not plan to become a third party company. Recently, Nintendo’s chairman even went so far as to say “The day Nintendo stops making consoles is the day Nintendo leaves the video game industry”.

They are in third in the market, but still making plenty of profit, so they will stick around. My cite on that quote is an issue of EGM, but I’m not sure which of the top of my head.

It was a press release a while ago i can’t remember where now but Nintendo will only be making games and portable game systems in the future. They will no longer try to fight against Sony and Microsoft for the console market. I only know this because I always fight everyone on the fact that Sony will be running everyone else out of the game console business in the near future with the release of the PS3. They have already killed Sega and Nintendo is next, Then Microsoft will be last. Nintendo will still have the market for their portable game systems though.

onyxtyghr, you’re mistaken. Nintendo is most certainly not abandoning the console market. I know a few people who are in the game industry. (Actually, I’m in the game industry now, but only as an intern, and only for the last three weeks.) New GameCube titles are still in production, and long-term plans are being made for games for Nintendo’s next generation of consoles.

The game market being what it is, it is entirely possible that Nintendo might end up dropping out of the console market, but they certainly haven’t publically announced any such plans, and have been adamant that they have absolutely no intention of giving up on manufacturing consoles.

I was only trying to pass on the information that was given to me by a Nintendo Representative that gave me this information when I used to work for a well known Department store that i will not name but say that we did not have the Mart in our name. I was told by the Nintendo Rep that we will soon not be getting any more consoles from Nintendo but we will still get games and Gameboy(portable) hardware and games for them only. This may have changed since then for I have not worked for them for around 3 months now.

I think what they are trying to say, is that while right now the GameCube is the number one selling console, in total units sold since intro they are still in third place.

Its good to see though, the GC is an awesome console.

Are you sure it wasn’t simply that the store you worked at had stopped carrying Nintendo consoles and games?

Really, if Nintendo were getting out of the console buisness, this would be huge news. It’d be all over the gaming industry, all over the internet, it’d be on the cover of every gaming magazine on the newstand. And even if they were planning such a move, they certainly wouldn’t publicize it a few months before the release of one of the biggest games of their flagship franchise. I’m talking about Wind Waker, of course. An announcement that Nintendo was no longer supporting the GameCube would gut the sales of the game.

I think you’re confusing Nintendo with Sega, onyxtyghr. Sega has quit the hardware market, and has begun production of software for other systems.

Nintendo has most definately NOT stopped making Gamecubes.

They are not only pursuing the Cube, but are also working on a new console to come out along with the Playstation 3.

I’ll try to find the cite for it, but Nintendo’s offical word on the matter was along the lines of “When we drop out of consoles, we drop out of everything”. So either we have our Gamecubes and our GameBoys or we have nothing.

SMACKDOWN!

From the sales here in the UK it would appear it is quickly losing ground with the other major gaming systems.

Knowing how much I enjoy Zelda, the hubby took advantage of the recent sale at Argos to buy a GC, Pikman, a memory card and controller for 78.99 pounds to be put away for my birthday.

Can’t wait to give it a go

Does this mean I’ll never get my ADAM?

My Zelda GC came with three disks, so I got three games, so no wonder it was a top seller. Also, there seems to be some great GC deals these days, as the price of the console dips.
