SP2 GameCube X BOX 123

The experts say that PS2 will take the #1 place of the consol war, GameCube second, and X-Box third. (to all you X-Box fans, it’s no big deal… Microsoft is JUST coming into the VG market, and look to make their big money with the next consol out). I don’t mind this so much, because I always root for the ‘underdog’ and since SONY is bigger than just a video game co. and Microsoft is… well, you know, a power house, Nintendo is my suga’ baby. So I root for good ol’ Nintendo, however if I had to choose one company to be ahead of Nintendo it would be SONY. I like SONY because they aren’t afraid to complement the competition. I read one high ranking SONY member praise the GameCube and Nintendo. I also hear from Nin. that SONY is actually a good type of competitor that doesn’t result in bashing to sell products. He did, however have some bad things to say about X-Box.

Ok, so my question is, for those of you who are familiar with this sort of thing… does Nintendo have a chance in the #1 spot? Predictions?

GC’s target customer is 14 and pre-14ers.

PS2 and XBox are after 15+ers.

If anyone going to die, its PS2. XBox cant die with uS’s billions of cash reserves.

Which experts?

It’s funny, I think Nintendo has come out with some of the better “Mature” games. They had Perfect Dark, Golden Eye, Conker, Body Harvest, Killer Instinct, and a lot of others… I would say even both Zelda’s were pretty dark. GameCube is the only new system to have Resident Evil games (I THINK a new one too). I’ll like Mario no matter how old I am, it’s an amazing series. Soul Calibur 2 is going to be on the cube, Bloody Roar Ex is too. I would say Nintendo just has a wider range, and if you consider my childhood video game bad ass Mario to be for just younger tikes… I think you’re wrong.

I swear… I’ve heard three places that “experts” believe things will pan out in that order. 2 were news casters.

I really think it’s anybody’s game at this point. PS2 is hot off the tails of PSX’s great success, and it has been out long enough to have some pretty good games. Devil May Cry is pretty damn cool. Gamecube is pretty lacking in the hardware department, but Rogue Squadron looks very sexy. Nintendo is a seasoned veteran, and millions swear by Nintendo games. Hardware won’t change gameplay. X-Box has the hardware, and the games look cool. It seems like the underdog to me, just because so many people have it at number #3.

Looking at the lineups of the games (judging by which ones I have played, seen, or played the prequels), I’d most like to get an X-Box. Between Halo, Dead or Alive 3, Jet Grind Radio Future, and Shenmue II, I’d be in seventh heaven. Add on some non-exclusive games to the bunch: Soul Calibur 2, Tony Hawk 3, NFL 2k2…I’m sold.
Of course, public opinion disagrees with me, so I wouldn’t predict it winning the console war money-wise. But it seems like the best buy to me.

Of course, I was never a big fan of Nintendo’s games, so that’s what separates me from a lot of the people that like Gamecube over X-Box.

Yeah, that whole sequence where you had to chase chickens around a farmyard still gives me the willies. And I don’t even like to think of the part where I had to put on the Pikachu mask to get past the tower guard, or play your ocarina to make the forest child dance on a tree stump, for fear that I’ll wake up screaming tonight.

(I don’t have a point to make, I’m just being pissy.)

haahaahaa

yeah, you’re right… but the moon crashing into the earth, kinda dark.

maybe

Personally, I think that the Gamecube will be the ultimate winner, money-wise. When they start coming out with all the children’s games, their sales are going to skyrocket, believe you me. Further, public opinion seems to be heavily against the X-Box, which will probably hurt sales (by how much, I don’t know), and the PS2 is simply lagging in terms of flexibility.

My opinion is that Sony put too much effort into prettiness and superficial qualities of the PS2 (such as miniaturization) and not enough effort into quality of hardware. Microsoft did the reverse… putting the best stuff into their system, size of the unit be damned. Gamecube seems to be a healthy medium (it’s got the power, and the thing is fucking SMALL!).

Ultimately, I’ll probably go with the X-Box (size? Feh. I have space. Heat? Feh. I own fans. It’s Microsoft? Feh. Just feh). It has, as the say, the potential to “be a contender”. The ultimate truth in the gaming world is all that matters is the games… but the X-Box has the potential for better games. As I always point out any time the X-Box is mentioned, I refer you to Project Ego.

The GC will not be primarily marketed to children. At least, that is what Nintendo has explicitly stated in interviews I read in my video game magazines. Seeing as the entire Resident Evil series is a GC exclusive (so says Capcom) I would tend to think they might be telling the truth.

I think the PS2 will not compare to the PS1, but whether that means the XBox will beat it… The XBox definitely seems to have the hardware available to it to outlast even PS1’s incredible run. In fact, I think that’s the idea. So, this xmas: PS2, GC, XBox. Next Christmas. GC, PS2, XBox. Third xmas, I think XBox will have moved up a slot over PS2 or GC (they might have switched again). It is gonna slowly climb to the top as the hardware really starts mattering over time (think second generation PS versus recent PS like Metal Gear Solid— programmers learn their stuff).

I think the XBox should come out ahead within two years by having the most next-gen games (PS2 will always have the most games because of backwards compatibility). I think GC and PS2 will fight for their spots with each other.

I think I will own a GC and an XB but not a PS2.

fin

Well, based on my visit to several stores yesterday, I think Nintendo may be the one in trouble.

Last year, the PS2 was released and sold out in minutes.

Earlier this week, the XB was released and sold out in minutes.

Yesterday the GC was released and… there are still units sitting on shelves.
I was in a Best Buy yesterday where they had a special table set up to sell GameCubes. There were plenty of units there.

I saw two people pick up PS2s while I was in the videogame section. I overheard both of them comment how it could also play DVDs.

The XB and PS2 can play DVDs. The GC does not. That could make a big difference in people’s minds.
(FWIW, I have a PS2. I plan to pick up an XB after the initial stampede ends and a few more games are out. I’m planning on passing on the GC.)
