In all seriousness, as I scroll through that scene on my DVD, it sounds like he’s saying… "Run, you fools!!, not fly…
In my DVD he says “Run, you fools”. But then I got the Battle of the Old School Rappers version and Frodo and Samwise kept insisting that LL Cool J was the best of the lot.
Me too, Quasi, It sounds like he says something like “Folly, you fools!” As in “it would be folly to try to help me now.” But once I considered the possibility that it was “fly”, I was certain that was what it was (I didn’t remember that part of the book.)
You’re not the only one Antiquarian. I believe he said Run, you fools in my DVD too.

I thought it was “You’re not my father!” And then a drop down into the abyss screaming, not in silent defiance like the original, but like a sissy boy - “Nyaaaaaaaaaah”.

I just wanted to say that of all the sad moments in the trilogy, this is the one where I tear up most. Especially watching FoTR the first time on screen, even though I knew it was coming. A testament to Ian McKellan’s abilities.
