Gandalf In TFOTR: "______, You Fools!"

The Fellowship of the Daytraders: “Buy, you fools!”

I remember tearing up the first time I saw it too. I thought, all those hours those guys spent designing and creating a model for that balrog and they throw it in a hole after 30 seconds. At least they get to use it again for the second movie

Shakespeare’s Much Ado About One Ring: Fie, you fools!

Quick question off topic, but I didn’t want to start a new thread:

I was just rereading FOTR, and didn’t catch where Frodo dropped the ring and Boromir picked it up. I was positive that was in the book. Was it not on their trip up Caradras, or was it just a very small mention?

Munch: I don’t remember that at all; paging LOTR fanatics!

Catcher of the Rings: “Rye, you Fools!”
X-Files of the Rings: “Lie, you Fools!”
Bedazzled by the Rings: “Everything I’ve ever told you has been a lie, you Fools!”
Twin Peaks with the Rings: “Pie, you Fools!”
Revenge of the Rings: “You’re just gonna stand there? Die, you Fools!”
Mall of the Rings: “Buy, you Fools!”
Plan 9 of the Rings: “Why, you Fools?”

Fellowship of the Protologists: Sigh. More stools.

Never happened in the book.

If you remember the scene from the book where Boromir attempts to seize the ring, he begins by “casually” asking Frodo for another look at it, saying he only got a glimpse of it in Rivendell.

Huh. Man, and I thought they had really picked up on a great moment in the book when they had it in the movies.

In the book, if that were to happen, would Boromir have been instantly seduced by the Ring and run off? Gandalf actually touches the Ring in the book, and he was fine.

Does he ever touch the ring? I don’t remember that.

Weeblship of the Rings: “When come back, bring pie, you fool!”

Gandalf is the one who threw the Ring into the fire at BagEnd.

Yes, but did he actually touch the ring in the process? I’ll have to check when I get home, but I don’t think he does.

In the movie, he throws the envelope holding the ring into the fire, which burns away.

Since I am re-reading the books right now, I have it close at hand. Let’s see…

and there you have it, Gandalf does touch the ring, albeit only briefly.

Lord of They Might be Giants: Eye palindrome Eye, you fools!

A Ring of their Own: There’s no crying in Moria, you fools!

Ambumax, probably so, but it’s possible that Gandalf was holding it by the chain, isn’t it?

I suppose so, c_carol, I’ve never really thought of it that way. I guess it doesn’t really say that he took it into his hand or anything.

Hmmmm…

Fellowship of the Spinners “Ply, you fools!”

Re: Gandalf touching the ring

Clearly Frodo was shocked because Gandalf touched it with his bare hand.

IMO the way it was handled in the movie was better, with Gandalf never directly touching the ring.
