Gaudere

No, this is more pointless: “Gaudeamus Igitur”, “Let us therefore rejoice”, is, of course, a German student song featured in Brahms’s “Academic Festival Overture” which he wrote as a thank-you for an honorary doctorate conferred on him by Breslau University. As I originally heard the story, he forgot to say thank you in the first place and so wrote this splendied overture by way of apology. It went down a storm and in consequence I, for one, have known what “Gaudeamus” meant since I studied the A.F.O. for music O-level back in the 1970s.
Churchill was no great lover of modern “classical” Latin pronunciation. He found it hard to picture Caesar saying “Wainy weedy weeky”.

And I’m not getting into any limerick competitions with EddyTeddyFreddy or Hamadryad

With limericks witty and sly
Hamadryad and ETF vie
To praise our Gaudere.
But, loath to compare, eh?
Malacandra says, “I’ll go get pie.”

An administrator
Gaudere shines like
Morning sun on rose petals

While Ilsa_Lund uses Japan
For his prose which, with no rhyme, still scans*
EDT and I
Use a verse-form that’s wry;
But we’re doing the best that we can!

EFT and I rhyme, one supposes
But we both come up smelling like roses.
We’ll both have high places
In Gaudere’s graces
And powder the brown on our noses.

Crap. The * was supposed to be:

  • I apologize for the plural. My brain is mush. I went to a stealth PTA meeting tonight.

Hamadryad stays
True to the limerick form
To laud Gaudere.

Ilsa_Lund broadens
Multiculturally our
Gaudere gushings.

Malacandra still
Prefers to bring back pie for
Gladdened Gaudere.

ETF blathers;
Never knows when to shut up.
Who let the cat out?

Hamadryad praises Gaudere
With flowery verse of that town in the land of green
'Tis that prose that holds to us and ours near
The memory of the rhyme, as many have seen

For 'tis not the skill in the words so sweet
That tells of of their devotion
Lest for those who shan’t find it neat
Shall raise the quietest of commotions

As the sun rises eternal on an administrator’s hat
So too shall their thankless duty continue
Though we know in our hearts one shall go to bat
For she hath construction of sinew

Gaudere rules always fair
One of the few, an SDMB mare

I don’t need any fucking Iambic Pentameter in MY sonnets!

Once again, the Straight Dope gives me new insight into an obscure Flanders and Swann songs.
Oh, and my contribution to the verse:

Gaudere…
I once just saw a post by Gaudere…
Now when I read The Dope
I wish she would elope, with me

Gaudere…
Some racists got banned by Gaudere…
Sent back into their holes
Just like all socks and trolls, she sees

Gaudere…
She is tough but she’s not a meanie
Gaudere…
I’m still dreaming about that bikini
Gaudere…
I still can’t pronounce it… Gaudere
*

That’s absurd, you know.

No one here would flame you for wearing a red string bikini.

Now, where’s that jpeg?

That tack of this thread has dissolved
Into a nasty puddle.
The ooze and goo we’ve spread within
The OP, hence, to muddle.

With haiku, limerick, sonnet, song
We laud the great Gaudere
Her constitution hard as rocks,
Her face more sweet than Fay Wray.

Fay Wray was she who met the beast
In Harryhausen’s “Kong.”
When heaping praise on an Admin
No compliment’s too strong.

Poor Lib has tried, without success
To turn the Pit against her.
He should have learned by now, I think
His hands to sometimes CENSOR.

It’s not that he’s not sometimes right.
He’s made a point or three…
But of his blunders, Pitizens
Retain long memory.

Well, anyhow, this hijack’s done.
(I’m out of things to say, okay?)
By entertaining anyone
I’ve done what I love most. Good day!

bows

How pleasing, Libertarian,
To see your thread unleash
Such praises nonsectarian
For Gaudere, that peach!

Did you expect, when first you wrote
The OP for the Pit,
That it would be an antidote
To Dopers in a snit

About some wrong, perceived or real,
Perpetuated by
A mod or an admin who’d deal
With posters who defy

The SDMB rules of con-
Duct for this online town
Of righties, lefties, off-and-on
Pure nutcakes who will clown?

Amid each endless great debate,
And mundane, pointless stuff,
The seeking intellect must rate
Gaudere high enough

To rank her with the fabled mods,
Admins who tirelessly
Protect the Dope from gormless clods
Who’d troll our community.

So who will next decide it’s cool
To sing Gaudere’s praises?
It’s tough to follow MaxTheVool
Or Hamadryad’s graces.

I signed on to this message board
To help out the ignorant hoard
And then came Gaudere
Who said, “I shouldn’t say
But your postings have left me quite bored.”

ETF likes to dote on her cats
Dressing them uo in bright hats
To her nothing is duller
Than a mouse in a bowler
Or Stetsons on vampire bats

Ilsa Lund seems to like foriegn flicks
And the name would remind you of chicks
But you would feel like a wussie
If you went for some pussy
And then realised that girls don’t have dicks
Sorry

ETF, Scylla, and Vool
for a picture they’d surely duel
while here on my screen
I have her in green
Post it for all? I’m no Fool!

The bikini is actually teal
But she and I did make a deal
No pictures for you,
Though I’ve not one but two!
no wrath of Gaudere I’ll feel

I suppose I shouldn’t mention that I’ve known the meaning of Gaudeamus since grade school? I’d go into the story of it, but I’m afraid of getting in the way of these poetic fools:D

Wow, so many poems! Thanks, Hamadryad, EddyTeddyFreddy, Ilsa_Lund, MaxTheVool and NoClueBoy. I got a kick out of them.

Mike, if you’re going to taunt the dopers you might not get to see my vacation pix anymore. At least not the ones where I go anyplace above 30 degrees Farenheit.

Gaudere recently explained something to me in a way that made sense and sent my blood pressure back to normal levels. It pleased me that she took the time.

And thanks, Libertarian, for the OP.

For a woman, she’s really doing well. (Work with him, Gaudere!)
