In reference to the OP, the phrase “Christian-bashing” is such a joke. It just doesn’t happen.
gay-bashing: “Hey, that man has sex with other men! Let’s get him!” (Happens all the time.)
Christian-bashing: “Hey, that man believes Jesus Christ died for our sins! Let’s get him!” (Never happens.)
What you’re confusing for Christian-bashing is a common practice known as “asshole-bashing”. When some groups of Christians publicly state that being gay is evil, or doing some harmless activity they don’t like will lead to eternal suffering and damnation, or some other bullshit, people often say “Man, those guys are assholes!”
If your group keeps doing that, people will start making assumptions about your asshole potential, since you voluntarily joined and participate in that group. The solution: form a new, non-asshole group. Don’t let any of the assholes join.
Sorry for saying “asshole” so much. Hope no one was offended. (Except for the assholes – I hope they were offended all to shit.)
Those people that did that how do you know they were “fundies” ? And if they were “fundies” they were not living the way Christ would have them live. They were wrong. Sure there are some wacky people in every sect but why do “fundlementalist” get labeled so poorly? What the OP was trying to say it seems like just because a few fundlemist are crazy it seems like all of us get labeled that way.**
In answer to your last statement, many fundamentalist churches are often rather quiet in their denouncement of the (self proclaimed) fundamentalists who do things such as what Andygirl & Eyke describe.
I’d be more friendly with them if they’d denounce those who engage in such terrorist tactics like those described above. Their silence speaks volumes.
Wow just noticed I spelled “fundamentalist” wrong.
Freyr,
Just an observation on why they might be quiet maybe they don’t know what to say? I give this as an example. I am not sure if you have kids or not, but if they do something wrong, do you totally denounce them? Or do you not know what to say? After all they are your kids.
And even if you do manage to convince me it is “wrong,” who are you to tell me about it in ANY manner? They’re not your kid, they’re often-times strangers.

What is this? Now I’m writing press releases for Fundamentalist Christian churches?
WB, no I don’t have children. As a gay man, I doubt I will. I also realize I don’t have the patience to be a good parent so I doubt it’ll happen.
Also, there’s a world of difference between disciplining a child and denouncing a adult who’s engaging in terrorist activity.
As for what the churches might say, how about:
We completely denounce those who engage in violence and terrorism against homosexuals and the homosexual community. While we do not agree with homosexuality, we believe the use of violence and terrorism as a method of coercion is totally against biblical teaching, both in the Old and New Testaments.
That was very good pr statement. Ever thought about going in the PR business? **
If you like it so much, please use it. Show it to your minister. Make sure he uses it. Especially when something like what happened in Roanoke, VA occurs or another Matthew Shepard or Billy Jack Gathier.
