Gay Christians are better than Straight Christians

Police in Charlotte NC recently issued a warning to residents that a radical “Christian” group was planning on converging on the town to protest outside a gay church, abortion clinics, mosques and possibly other targets. The leader of this group had previously been to Charlotte and screamed his lungs out during a mass commitment ceremony. He was also arrested recently for trespassing at a Charlotte clinic.

The response of the gay church to being targeted yesterday by 100 hostile demonstrators? Put on a pot of coffee and give them breakfast.

I believe I’ve posted to this board previously about how little use I have for Christianity or any other religion, but I truly wanted to commend the people of the Charlotte MCC for showing exactly what the Christian spirit is and ought to be. Open arm in the face of hostility. Love in the bared teeth of hatred. Classy and truly Christ-like.

It’s in the Pit because of the title I wanted to use. I understand that not all straight Christians are like these nutjobs. Flame if you must.

wheezing
I’m sorry… what did you say?
Seriously, I agree with you wholeheartedly. They couldn’t have had a classier response and hopefully it shamed the protesters into taking a closer look at their actions and motivations. Bravo Charlotte MCC.

Very uplifting. Thanks, Otto.

I have a videotape of a newsbroadcast from Kansas City, in the early 90’s. Fred Phelps and crew were picketing a church there, apparentlly a main-stream Christian denomination congregation.

A young girl, looked to be in her middle teens, approaches the picket line from the church. She’s carrying a platter and offers one of the picketers a doughnut. He asks, in an ugly tone “Are those the ones infected with the AIDS virus?” Her reply? “I don’t think so.”

But the AIDS doughnuts are the best ones!

Mmmmmm…but are they glazed?

After reading the OP, perhaps Gay Christians are better than some Radical Christians would have been a better thread title.

Checking the clock in the assumption at least one of the following retorts will be posted:

  1. And the make better hosts.
  2. Their organ player is much more proficient.
  3. At least their blood of Christ is symbolized w/La Playa Estate Reserve Merlot as opposed to that crappy grape juice posing as wine.
  4. Well, they do give better head.
  5. I agree, stained glass windows look much nicer with a valance.
  6. Hymns sound much nicer when mixed with show tunes.
  7. The collection plate is brimming with condoms.
  8. The Blessed Mother statue is more contemporary: Madonna in a grotto.

no, they are the ones filled with creamy goodness:smack:

On behalf of the rest of the straight Christians on this board, I want to offer my sincere regrets, and completely distance myself from, this effort to reduce gay people to their sexuality and a few stereotypes.

Poly, it’s OK, JohnBckWld is gay and hot, and gay and hot is forgiven anything.

I’d also like to add that now all ‘gay christians’ are like that. So take a few instances and apply them to the whole whether gay or not is wrong. The examples I can give are from experiences I’ve had, but since it then becomes a gay vs non-gay, I choose not to share them. So in this case, were the people being Christlike? Absolutely. If I’m on the way to rob a bank, and I help someone who’s fallen, am I being Christlike? Sure, but does it imply that my life is a reflection of Christs? I think not.

Certainly you aren’t comparing being gay to being a bank robber are you?

Ha ha ha! That’s beautiful. Good job, guys in the OP.

That’s a heartwarming and touching story, Otto. Thanks for sharing.

Let me get this straight. You’re saying that being gay is not reflecting Christ? How exactly does one “reflect Christ” outside of actions?

"Sheaves. snap snap snap snap Bringing in… the sheaves. snap snap snap snap "

Was is it with these people and the number four?

What in the hell are you talking about?

matt, when I start laughing in church it’s gonna be your fault.

4 = “for”.

The “Svt” part mystifies me, though.
