I know a lot more women who read Ann Rice novels than men who read them (although I read her “Feast Of All Saints” before i ever heard of vampire smut but I’m kinda femme in my music and reading tastes) and that stuff is pretty much gay romance with some rough trade thrown in. My ex had a bunch of Tom’s of Finland postcards and loved “pretty boy” gay porn (Jeff Stryker pretty). Maybe i just hang out with sexually diverse women but pretty much every woman I have known and or dated liked porn in general (of course you would ahve to be pretty open minded to deal with me to begin with) and most if not all of them were interested in gay porn. My wife and I have a hetero female friend who loves gay porn as well as bukake movies and scat flicks. When she mentioned the scat movies one day, I thought I knew what it meant but didn’t want to ask for fear of an overwhelming amount of detail. So I type scat into a search engine and discovered two things:
- There’s apparently a large, large market for scat fiction on the internet (as well as scat movies on ebay).
- Almost all of the stories I saw were written by women and involved largely lesbian scenarios.
I consider myself to be very open-minded sexually - my orientation swings around like the needle in a busted compass - but the scat stories got me close to gagging.
My question (finally!): Are there a lot of women out there actually into scat, or just into reading/writing about it? What about guys?
Ahh yes, scat. That’s one of the few porn genres that can gross me out. In my explorations on the net, scat seems to have a decent gay following.
In the name of research, here’s what i’ve come up with:
- on google, there are a total of 2,930 sites found using the phrase “gay scat”
- the “Gay Scat ring” (which features a lovely gag image of it, pulls up 112 sites in the ring (this is a german based ring, BTW). Fave site title: Scatboys - British shit.
- On egroups, the gay scat group has 529 members.
So, scat must be fairly popular to get as many hits as it did. Draw your own conclusions (please…)

Most of my female friends said they werent into gay porn, but they said they didnt find it gross. However, they were the ones with the big porn collections (except my friend mike, but that’s a diff thread ;)). I bet i do know some women (other than here) who are into it, but just havent had the opportunity to get into a discussion like that (i doubt it would come up in class…).
Yes, but the recent tendency in movies etc. is to deal with homophobic distaste for gay sex by pretending they don’t have any. They’re alway the sexless/relationshipless best friend. They don’t even get to kiss. That’s pretty fucked up stereotype too.
Of course Queer as Folk isn’t the perfect reply to that. It isn’t realistic either, but no less so than the other, heterosexual sex oriented shows (many of them also on Showtime.)
Anyway, I called it a great show because of the beautiful naked men and the unspeakable things they do to other beautiful naked men, not because of any question of overall quality. Although overall I think it’s pretty good.

I think I’ve read every post on this thread carefully, but I didn’t seem to see posts from any self-identified straight males who admit to possibly getting turned on by gay male porn. I’ve never seen gay male porn, in fact I don’t like any sort of porn movies, because no director can do for me what my own imagination can. Like most men, I fantasize a lot, overwhelmingly more often about women. For a gay male “daydream” to do anything for me, the guys have to be perfect-looking, with hairless, tanned, swimmer’s bodies; almost pretty. And I wouldn’t want them to be characters, like Spock and Kirk, or Greg and Peter Brady - I would want them to exist purely for the purposes of my fantasy. Maybe that’s some sub-surface homophobia on my part.
Now with fantasies that involve women, that’s a whole different story. I can dream up women of any type, with complex back-stories, distinctive personality traits, hopes and dreams, and it all adds to the depth and beauty of the fantasy. To hell with Starsky and Hutch, I could have a great daydream about Cagney and Lacey getting it on together.
