Look. Israel is a Jewish state, and it’s Flag has Jewish symbolism on it. The idea that there is some bright line between Jewish Symbolism as represented by the MD and Israeli Symbolism as represented by the MD is laughable.
You know, I thought about adding in the word “Jewish” before “star,” but I thought it was blatantly obvious what I was talking about that only a person being deliberately obtuse would claim to misunderstand it.
Let’s just assume you said “difference” rather than “bright line” because by using that term you’re misrepresenting what people have said. I’m sure you did not mean to do that.
Of course there are differences in the way the Star of David is used in different contexts and what it’s intended to mean. Examples:
Israeli flag: “We’re a Jewish state.”
On a menorah: “This is a Jewish ceremonial item.”
On a necklace worn by me: “I’m Jewish.”
On a necklace worn by Mr. T: I have no idea what it means because he’s a Christian, but it looks nifty.
That partially assuages my concerns about this incident, though I’ll disagree with them that Zionism is inherently white supremacist. Perhaps the form of Zionism that they describe (settlements and forced removal of Palestinians) is white supremacist, but there are plenty of Zionists who oppose the settlements. My understanding of Zionism is simply that there should be a Jewish state in order to ensure Jews have somewhere safe in the world to live.
I have been good. I’ve been quiet. I’ve kept out of this.
But this line is Christmakwanzakkuh come early. It’s like saying the ACA is Socialist. Hell, it’s like saying the modern DNC is Socialist. There’s no realm of existence where that sentiment is not absurd on its face.
